Hello everyone
Hi Everyone,
My names Jim, I joined the forum to meet like minded people with an interest to camping and to seek for tips and tricks.
I bought a very old Peugeot Boxer 2001 Auto-Sleeper back in late 2021 from a dodgy dealer down in Wolverhampton.
The inside is really well kept and it runs well, with only 48K miles. Full service history and lots of documents to go along with it.
Used it in 2022 and loved it.
We walk a lot and I climb so it was great to park up where we could, without causing a nuisance.
When they were open we booked into camp sites. Luxury.
Early this year it failed it's MOT due to severe rust !!!
My fault entirely for not being thorough enough when checking.
So... where to begin.
I've managed to cut out the rot and repair with patch panels and it's starting to look pretty decent.
Replaced the front cross member and rear shock absorbers too. No problem.
Good coating of Lanoguard to stave off the rust from inside the sills, hopefully.
Hopefully we'll get to use the van a lot more this year, then look on upgrading to a fixed bed at some point, but for now enjoy the van.
Regards
Jim

Re: Hello everyone
Hi IanH,
It's a Peugeot Boxer Symbol 1.9TD AS
I think it had been kept in a field or by the sea with previous welding simply placed over the old rust.
Glad to share pics of before and after.
I'm an engineer by training so can put my hand to most things with enough practice. I'd been trained in welding some years ago but only to an introductory level.
Bought a small flux core MIG welder from Toolstation, which I found to be good enough and easy to use.
Bought the steel sheeting on-line. 1.5mm for chassis sections and 0.8mm for external sills. (as per the original)
I did have to install some 6mm sections to support the jacking points at the front.
Liberal wire brushing then coated everything with a rust converter, before applying waxoil. Not convinced on the waxoil as yet.
Should I have just kept tot he Lanoguard?
If anyone wants information on the rust converter I can provide that.
Anyway, got the re- MOT today so fingers crossed.
Should I add pictures here on on another section?

Re: Hello everyone
Hi and welcome to the forum. The Duetto we bought as a first venture into camper life had spent a lot of its time on the Isle of White that didn’t help the rust issues we found later. I lost the use of a workshop just before we bought it so it cost a fortune for the welding work needed to keep it on the road.
I used Bilt and Hamber on my Landrovers because of its ease of use being in spray cans but it’s getting pricey. Lanogaurd seems to be coming popular. I might think about using it this year.

Hi Jim and welcome.
May I suggest you alter your profile from “Peugeot Auto Sleeper” to “Symbol” as people will then immediately know what model AS you’re talking about.
