Van Security?
Just read a piece in an article saying the best way to secure a motorhome if you have the option?
Spin both seats round and secure with a bike D lock
by eck that would be difficult to drive
I guess this isn't a new idea but I just thought it was a brilliant tip if your leaving the van for a shopping session?

Apparently if they want it they wind the seat back forwards and sit on the back of it.

Yes I suppose so if they want it they'll have it anyway I just fancy making ours less desirable than the next one who hasn't bothered.i thought it was a fair easy to do deterrent.

Keep reading articles as even when owners phone and call out people like myself when they can’t find the keys it takes seconds to break what ever lock is put in place using bolt cutters battery grinders so if someone wants to pinch a vehicle they will do

Re: Van Security?
As well as the various deadlocks, immobiliser, alarms, etc, I have my crooklock pro on the steering wheel, the seat is turned backwards and held in place by a long cable and padlock which interweaves through at least two spokes on the steering wheel and tightly round the seat upright lying against the steering wheel with no slack to slide it up or down. This should reduce the potential for seatback lowering and add more layers for a grinder to have to damage causing further time to pass.
A long hasp padlock is slid through the CV joint on the steering column stopping rotation of the wheel. The front wheels are always secured at full lock towards the wall beside the van by the ignition steering lock. There is a chain attached to the padlock and secured to the seat base.
The van also has VIN chip stickers on all the windows and transponders in various locations. The most recent addition was a free kit from the local crime prevention officer which is a DNA dot varnish which is liberally applied in multiple locations both inside and out and including various engine parts. It is called SelectaDNA and my unique dna code is registered with them.
The officer reckoned the various warning stickers, particularly the dna ones were reasonably effective in warding off attack.
The biggest risk in my view is a break in whilst the van is parked in a carpark. Little we can do to stop this apart from common sense precautions, but that’s for another thread.
Sounds like I am a bit ocd or paranoid, but I simply take the best precautions I can and then get on with enjoying the van.

Hi Davy
A very sensible approach much of which I shall be replicating. Thanks for sharing I would never let fear stop me enjoying our van we have enjoyed vans various for over 40 years. However I think we have an obligation to make it as difficult as we can for people to thieve from us and common sense is the key

I have a Tracker and Wheel Clamp on my van, but the best deterrent I think is my Pedal Box! With a very high security lock I consider this the best protection, and only takes a couple of minutes to fit. Essential in a car park!!

I don’t want to sound negative or discourage anyone from using a pedal box, it I do think people who use them should be aware that they are usually removed very quickly by sawing through the plastic pedal arms with a toothed wire, and then driven off with the pedals removed operating the pedals what remains of the pedal arms.

Plastic Pedal Arms???
What ever next??
Mine are steel, as I thought all were. You would need more than a toothed wire to get through them! Plus think of the noise you would make!!

Our 2017 boxer has plastic clutch and accelerator peddles, however the break pedal is metal. I would have thought yours would be the same ? …
Oops … Paul beat me to it

I've just tried winding the seat back as far as it will go with the seat facing backwards. If you are of normal height or above I reckon its impossible to drive.Toffee wrote:Apparently if they want it they wind the seat back forwards and sit on the back of it.

I'd like to see someone drive it with the pedals sawn off.Toffee wrote:I don’t want to sound negative or discourage anyone from using a pedal box, it I do think people who use them should be aware that they are usually removed very quickly by sawing through the plastic pedal arms with a toothed wire, and then driven off with the pedals removed operating the pedals what remains of the pedal arms.
