New member introduction
Hi to all members,
After 4 years of trying to find the time and opportunity - running a business taking priority - I finally purchased a 2020 KemertonXL last October after 2 rentals in late Summer, early October to Scotland and Wales and looking at hundreds of vans online - whilst prices steadily rose
The rentals were of coachbuilts and proved that my original feeling that a van conversion would suit us best was correct, once you get over the price premium per square foot of accommodation.
A visit to the NEC show last week confirmed there were no deals to be had and also that we got the right van. The only close contender being a WildAx Constellation.
In between trips I've spent a lot of time personalising the van with a Lagun table, fitting drawers to many of the cupboards, extra LEDs, and a heated towel rail. I'm really keen on ergonomic benefits and the 'battle of the rattles'. I'd be interested in other members comments and ideas on these.
At the show we ordered a habitation Aircon unit for the coming summer and Continental trips. This led me to the Forum looking for information on leisure battery upgrades and charging systems - a financial minefield and confirmed my opinion that mainstream motorhome manufacturers do not prioritise off-grid capability in their products.

Welcome.
Sounds like both we went down a similar route, testing/viewing coachbuilds before deciding on a van conversion although your XL is still much bigger than my Symbol!
As someone who camps 70% off grid, I agree that most manufacturers assume that we are all like the WWB caravan brigade who couldn’t imagine not being on EHU. I’m not knocking for one minute those that choose that by the way.
I’ve been modding my van from new as soon as I bought it 3 years ago to make it more ‘off grid’ friendly. There are plenty of threads on the forum regarding the issue if you do a search.
