Labcraft fluorescent tubes
I need to replace a fluorescent tube in my 2004 Symphony. It appears to be a 300mm T5 8W but are there ones specifically for a 12volt system or are they the same tubes used in 240volt systems with the lamp holder containing the electronics to do the necessary conversion?
Sorry if this has been covered before but I can't find the answer.

Standard T5's. No specific for 12v.

Re: Labcraft fluorescent tubes
Two voltages for fluorescent tubes, the starting voltage at hundreds of volts and a few tens (less than 100) to sustain the plasma. The actual values depend entirely on the tube geometry and the gas inside.
12v will neither start or maintain a tube.
12v will neither start or maintain a tube.

Thanks all - now sorted. Fitted a spare from the house which turns out to work equally well in the campervan even though it’s on the 12v circuit. It seems that the electronics in the light fitting takes the input voltage (240v or 12v) and produces the necessary voltages to start and then sustain the plasma in the tube.

LED equivalent lights are available which consume somewhat less power, I fitted them to our 2003 Duetto. Along with the halogen spot lights changing over to LEDs helps when you camp off grid.
