Black Friday? What a con trick
I have moved house recently and when I booted up my PC it refused to start. I opened it up (it was a state of the art i7 processor self build about 10 years ago!) and was unsuccessful at getting it going and in the process thought that I had ruined the motherboard. I decided to make do with my laptop till I had time to reserch and buy a new machine.
In early October, in a free moment between emptying removal boxes, I did some research into new Dell and HP Core i7 machines and found a Dell XPS at £1049 which could fit the bill and seemed better value than the corresponding HP Envy. I stored that info away until I would have time to do a comprehensive check on the old machine AND time to set it up and transfer all the data.
Black Friday offers came up at the end of last week.
DELL'S BLACK FRIDAY OFFER WAS THE SAME MACHINE AT £1,299 les the SPECIAL Black Friday limited offer of 15% - ie £1,104.15. That's a special offer?
The bonus, though, was that I was spurred into going inside the old machine again and discovered that there was a bad connection on the power supply which had jumped loose in transit. Machine repaired and intervening data from laptop now transferred. Net saving £1,000 plus - RESULT
AND I WILL NEVER CONSIDER BUYING A DELL COMPUTER AGAIN!

Re: Black Friday? What a con trick
Not just laptop, I am looking to change Motorhome tyres and have started searching for best deals on 4 campervan tyres either Michelin or Continentals some of the so called Black Friday deals are more expensive than prices from other retailers without any offer showing, while further retailers have offer prices not linked to Black Friday that are in the same ballpark.
There seems to be a cartel in operation with the price paid bring very similar irrespective of supplier and if you want to buy from one retailer over another to give yourself the "comfort" of securing an apparent discount then that is fine.
Looks like I will use local supplier based on convenience at the end of the day.

Hi
Black Friday a con surely not!
Which? had an article in the November magazine warning of just that. The data was for last year (obviously they haven’t got the data for this year yet) but they tracked the prices of 220 home and tech items before and after Black Friday.
The results:
98% cheaper after Black Friday
85% cheaper before Black Friday
85% cheaper before and after Black Friday
and
100% cheaper after Black Friday at AO.com, Argos, Currys PC World and John Lewis!
Seems the time not to buy is on Black Friday or Black Friday deals.

Re: Black Friday? What a con trick
Having moaned about black Friday being a con I have just ordered and paid for 4 Vanco camper tyres from Kwik Fit at 20/ discount, I have been watching prices for a few weeks through multiple suppliers and this is by far the best price I have seen.
Getting them fitted locally next week.
Happy days.

I bought some Swan and Duck food and Sunflower hearts and got 20% off yesterday with free p&p. Really did as I looked at my last order.

Re: Black Friday? What a con trick
I had an email from Screwfix highlighting their black Friday deals. Amongst them were some DeWalt T stak boxes at a good price. I put in the local stores within a twenty mile radius to see if they had any in stock as they were not available for delivery. Zilch, none of the stores had any. Nuff said.
