Northants 2013 info needed reg HX13ABV
Hi,
Thinking of buying a 2013 Mercedes Northants reg HX13ABV.
This has been written off in the past.
Does anyone know the vehicle and its history.
Thought I would post in case a previous owner was on this site.
Thank you.

Possibly a fire damaged vehicle from Marquis Sussex fire - but I can't remember when that was.

Re: Northants 2013 info needed reg HX13ABV
Thank you Inspiredron.
The buyer states it had front end damage and it does have the newer front end. So I believe it was involved in an accident at some point.
I would like to find out the exact date as that shows how long it has been back on the road. How many MOT's it has passed etc.
Maybe the owner was on here and posted about the accident but has since left the site?

Check MOT history https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=2.99954845.2010290640.1598274109-630149733.1583505307
Only did 4 miles between Mar 2018 and Mar 2019, so probably when it was being repaired? Mar 2019 no advisories, MOT will have been extended to Nov 2020 die to Covid.

I expect you know this but, you can check MOT history on DVLA site. Also you can do a search and see what cat it was given.
I have always been advised against buying a cat vehicle as they may be hard to sell and insurance could be difficult, although it may have been repaired to the correct standard.
I don't know if this helps, but I would be very careful.

Thank you Rgermain,
Its only a Cat D so not written off because there was any structural damage. Its normally because its uneconomical to repair. Their may have been £10,000 storage fee's while the parts are found along with £10,000 hire fees for a replacement motorhome while the original was being repaired. Other costs outside of the repair itself are often far higher.
That's why its important to speak to the person that had the accident.
If a motorhome is 33% cheaper because its had minimal damage in the past then its just as easy to sell again at the 33% reduction.
My last 4 cars have all been Cat D write offs and I've never had a problem.

I just checked through the membership (you can list by model) and there have only been nine Northants registered and none of them have been 2013, so I doubt the previous owner was a member here.

Looks OK in the advert, except a cracked headlight and cracked front bumper, as described, on an expensive vehicle would not result in a Cat D write off. Replacement parts are easily available and relatively cheap, so probably more extensive damage?
Some Insurers refuse cover on Cat C (N) or Cat D (S) vehicles.
(S - short for structurally damaged) classification replaces Cat D.)

On the face of it looks like a lot of van for the money, really like the fact it has the new front end, didn't know you could do that, wonder what that would cost! A friend sells cat D sports cars mainly Ferrari and Porsche and doesn't seem to have any trouble selling them on, some the damage is really minor. I too would be wary of insurance but the answer to that is easily sorted.

SMC also have a Boughton which I think is similar. 2014 more extra's for £45,000.burlingtonboaby wrote:There's an older one ,10 reg, at the SMC dealership in Bracknell. Going for £34995.
Boaby
£45,000
-£5000 as a private sale
-£10,000 because its worth less as its a cat D (25% less)
= £30,000 which is what it made last week on Ebay but below the reserve.

Hi Peter
I like your figures but I think they are optimistic, the average dealer will want look at a margin of £10.000 between buying and selling to allow for costs incurred , I have just trade a MH and know how little they offer , so take £10.000 off your £45.000 and then reduce the £35.000 by 25% CAT D reduction £8750.00 that gives you a figure of £26.250 so offers of about £30.000 is good but you still need for your own peace of mind is to find out why it was a cat D in the first place
Regards
Alan

The £5000 is the difference between a private and a dealers price not what profit a dealer makes!
It made £30,100 last week on an Ebay auction and is already on £29,000 so its true value if sold private is in the low 30's.
Very rare a motorhome makes its true value on an Ebay auction.

I missed out on a Burstner i821 by 20 minutes for £45,000 3 weeks ago.
It was sold 10 days later by the person that paid £45,000. He sold it for £57,000.
There are many bargains that come up on Ebay its just being in the right place at the right time!

The motorhome auction was closed before it ended so I guess it was sold.
