Printers
Time for a moan, I will try and keep it simple.
We were looking toward us getting about again. So we booked to visit a property and a couple of outdoor shows. We have to print off entrance tickets. Tried to print tickets with no luck. After a bit of help from other people it appears our old, very old printer has packed in.
Like the toilet roll shortages we cant find a printer at a price we are willing to pay, about £30. We have tried all outlets we can think of. Locally its a joke. On line its a case of pay a lot or wait a long time. Its not worth us paying silly money for something we use very little.
We think we can manage by putting the scan bit of the first ticket for Thursday on my I Pad so they can scan it but it would be better to print the tickets.

Re: Printers
If you have access to eBay, take a look, I bought a recon Canon for £30, you will also need some ink, also on eBay.
It looked and works like new.
Some big outlets also have bargains, but watch their ink prices!

Re: Printers
I appreciate what your saying Richard about E Bay but I don’t want to risk that.
I tried the local big stores Curries Argos and Amazon yesterday I will have another try today. One of local big stores had shelf’s full of them before lockdown. Now there’s only ink and paper available.
We have only had two printers. The first one came from Tiny when we bought our first computer. The cartridges for it were costing more than a new one from Staples.
When Managements nephew in Aus was told to work from home he took his office chair and printer home with him.

Re: Printers
Bought a Canon Pixma MX475 about 6 months ago for under £40. Much better than my previous one that cost nearer £100 about 10 years ago.. Just used for printing and scanning documents. Check the Argos website.

Have you tried Ryman?
Our local store had several sub £40 models in their window last time I walked past.

Re: Printers
Each to their own, I only buy from firms who sell recon printers on eBay and not private sellers. See their feedback, me never had a problem yet, bought printers, laptops and tablets and saved loads of money.
I have read and seen in local press about returns etc from a very large PC outlet chain, giving poor service.
Just do not pay over the odds.

Re: Printers
Sometimes a good moan sorts the cob webs in the brain. I have never heard of Ryman, Al. Yes they have a Canon in stock and but it has to be delivered because is no local store here. They said about five days so hopefully we will be printing again before the first show.
Daughter and boy friend were saying they don’t use paper tickets very much it’s all done via there phones. My pensioner phone only does text and phone calls. Management has daughters old I phone but it’s got a flat battery when she finds it.
I am taking my I Pad when we go to the property on Thursday to test my new MIFI thing so as I said we can show that on arrival.
Thank again folks, it’s nice to know some one is listening out there.

If a secondhand one needs ink, then leave alone. You can pay £30 just for a pack of inks (original).

Re: Printers
Try Messrs "Stinky Ink" for cartridges. >> SEE HERE <<
We first bought from them with some trepidation, having heard horror stories of refurbished cartridges wrecking printers.
Need not have worried as we've never had a problem in 7 or 8 years, their cartridges contain more ink than the originals, and cost about a third of the price . . . or less!!

I also have only used replacement cartridges for all the years I have owned printers, as you say never had a problem. Mine are for a canon and they do reset the ink level and I have never had a problem with printer heads.
Loads also on eBay and they are new, not refurbished ones. I usually buy a bulk set and save even more and they don't dry out in storage.

Yes and a thanks from me too, although our Epson printers are resistant to working with third party ink cartridges. They are also liable to "dry up" if not used regularly.

Re: Printers
Just to put a final note on this the printer issue. I have ordered is a wireless Canon MG 3050 for £39.99.
I have used cartridge save for a while now so I checked there prices against stinky ink as Gromit mentioned. Cartridge save are a little cheaper for that model canon but I will check again when I need them.

Re: Printers
I only have Canon colour printers, worth the extra also only use genuine cannon ink cartridges , only get what you pay for. Most Canon printers are 1pdi which is a very small mozzle genuine inks knows this so don`t block up. to get good service for years Canon every time. pays your money and take your pick. I have the Canon TS9155 also a Brother Mono Laser printer which is excellent more econimical if just printing text.

They gave us some free pens on our first order as well, Lady G loves them as she claims they write upside down.Gromit wrote:Try Messrs "Stinky Ink" for cartridges. >> SEE HERE <<

The imagination boggles Hog.
And I didn't get any free pens either!! Wouldn't have recommended them if I'd known some people were privileged customers.
Miffed, I am now!

Re: Printers
If we are talking about cartridge save pens I claim them as my pens and they stay on the desk next to the laptop. They must be the same make as the ones we used to get on the Landrover days out. They last for ages and are nice to rite with.
Some of us would do anything for a free pen if they are worth having.
I see this subject is drifting a bit now!.
