Reserving camp site space
Recently picked up our new van and tried it out this weekend for one night on a CL overlooking the Wye near Ross. All OK, so next weekend we're off for a week for a longer trial around north Devon. If we stay more than one night on a site and we take the van out during the day, is there an acceptable method of reserving our space, particularly on a CL where the pitches often aren't marked out.

Hi shetland 33 ..... I usually leave the hook up cable coiled over a spare folding chair or table, tree branch, whatever, and prop up one of the signs available (or make up your own) "Pitch in use" or words to that effect. If the hook up is plugged in, some of the modern terminals allow you to flick the trip switch, meaning it would not be "live" while you are away from the pitch.
Should be pretty safe on CL's though you do hear of the odd cheeky nicking it. !!

Hi Shetland33,
I use an old number plate screwed to a stake and peg it into the ground when away. (doesn't have to be your current plate as the result is the same)
Enjoy your trip to Devon

Hi there,
Great question!
We nearly always leave the EHU cable, step and "chocks" as near to in-place as possible.
"Touch wood!", we haven't had anything nicked so far.
Best regards,

I made a sign with a picture of our van and a message. Laminated it and use 2 small canes to secure to pitch. Often leave the water container too. First time we were away we didn't know this and didn't mark pitch.

As with others we usually leave behind a hook up lead, no excuse then if anyone claims they didn't know the pitch was taken... or you could pop into reception at the caravan club sites and purchase a pitch marker as shown here

or make a sign of your own... if you don't mark your pitch in some way then I guess you only have yourself to blame if someone moves in

I leave our black waste water container with "WE'LL BE BACK" and our reg No. written on it and the hook-up lead coiled around it a couple of times.
