Saying "Hello!
Hello ASOF! We are Nick & Nicola from Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast. We've recently acquired a 1993 VW Clubman GL 2.4 diesel and are almost new to campervanning, after a very brief attempt some years ago, so looking for some friendly tips and pointers! Will post something on the general chat pages as we have some queries and a marked lack of knowledge about our van, and hoping that someone with relevant knowledge can help! Currently SORNed in these sad times but hoping to be trip ready as soon as we all come out the other side.

Re: Saying "Hello!
Hi there and thanks for the offer! Funny you should mention batteries! Our van has got all its receipts and guarantees and is local to here, so I know (from the garage where the batteries were bought, not the seller) that the batteries - both car and leisure - are new last summer. We bought the van in December, fully winterised, and it sat on our drive waiting for a chance to head off, which we did in Feb. Drove 200 miles to Norfolk and spent 2 days on electric hook up. Dry trip no water on board; lived off campsite amenities. Did use the gas heater and warm air fan ducting system on board - all good with no problems. We did, however, find that the van started to pong a bit - sort of rotten eggs. We each thought it must be the other person and politely said nothing at first haha! Drove home - on arrival found leisure battery dead flat. Googled it and found a zillion answers mostly saying "leisure battery knackered." Took it back to garage who sent it off to manufacturers for proper testing. Came back saying it was apparently OK, but they agreed to replace it as a goodwill gesture as we had all the receipts etc.babian wrote:hello,

So now we have a brand new leisure battery and the van has been on the driveway since then. Decided to use it at home just to get more used to using it. Hooked up at home, fridge on (240v switch not the 12v), after a day it's smelly again. The leisure battery isnt getting hot. We don't know what the problem is but are quite concerned that something might go badly wrong e.g. overheat/catch fire/blow up etc. Taking the fun out of it somewhat. Any ideas?
Thank you again - much appreciated.
