Very good (and probably as effective as the real face masks )
I was wondering if any of you good folk are considering changing your travel plans?

Very good Gromit,.See it’s 2003 edition so may only be good for flu and sars!!!
Seeing as you asked it askit ,Planning five weeks up in Scotland from end of March and have a cruise booked and paid for in may to Baltic.Have no plans to change anything until any uptodate info suggests I should.Think there is high chance all sorts of disruption is ahead of us.

If you've already had and recovered from the virus it would be a great time to travel to Venice and all the other usual 'hotspots' in Italy.

Re: Corona Virus
I'm not sure if you've all seen today's projected mortality rates for the over 60s, the over 70s and the over 80s.
The closest preparation Me and the Mrs have so far done is discuss if we need to stock pile toilet paper.

Al if using Gromits solution you might want to ensure all updates have been done as that mask/disc is dated 2003 and will not recognise Corona virus as a threat!

Re: Corona Virus
On a serious note.
What are the b'stards NOT telling us?
All this panic for something statistically less dangerous than seasonal flu?
Two 1,000 bed hospitals built in a fortnight!!!
Lock-downs of cities and whole areas in multiple countries . . . etc..

The initial data on Covid-19 deaths in China suggested a death rate well over 2%, which is higher than the Spanish Flu death rate and a major cause for concern.
As the virus spreads the data will settle out more and the percentage come down. It's impossible to say it's statistically less dangerous than seasonal flu because we don't have the full picture yet, but a good article was produced just recently that puts it into perspective a little more:

The problem (as ever) is the media hype around a lot of this. I guess Brexit has took a back seat for a while and they need the next big story.

Re: Corona Virus
Thanks Greyhound.
A much more plausible discussion of the facts, rather than the media hype as you say. The crucial point being that those with mild symptoms won't be counted in the stats, and may not themselves even realise they have had the virus.
I still don't understand why there are such a lot of quite drastic measures being taken world wide, when (as far as I'm aware) it has never happened before on anything like this scale.
I'm inclined to think you are spot on about the media hype. Not very long ago we wouldn't have even been aware of most of it. Nowadays if a minor "celebrity" breaks a fingernail in Scapa Flow it's on the evening News!!

It'll be fine Al, neither of the other passengers will catch anything from you. If you are on Emirates via DXB you should have plenty of space on the DXB/LHR sector!bikeralw wrote:Well I have 24 hours confined in a plane with 400 folk of all nationalities to look forward to on Thursday.
