Annual habitation service
Marquise Tewkesbury £234 ... AS Willersey £189. Willersey is only a few miles further for me plus they do a great brekkie in the village shop. Thought this may be of interest for some.

Plus discount for ASOC members at Willersey, saving pays for membership (well almost).

But ask for the discount in advance!!Paulmold wrote:Plus discount for ASOC members at Willersey, saving pays for membership (well almost).
Don't know if it still applies, but they used to refuse the discount if you didn't offer the card until payment.
Curious way of doing business??

The club advises to present member card when checking in before any work begins, applies to all club discount offers.Gromit wrote:But ask for the discount in advance!!Paulmold wrote:Plus discount for ASOC members at Willersey, saving pays for membership (well almost).

Yes, indeed: could never understand the logic. I feared that, if they knew in the advance that it would be a discounted job, you'd somehow only get what you were going to pay for i.e. somehow inferior. But I stress that as far as I know those fears were baseless.
I haven't been there since Mark left, but during his tenure I had nothing but praise.
I no longer make the trek there as an AS dealership has opened locally. Whilst I'm booked in there next week, I'm very tempted in future to use a mobile mechanic: it seems that many Forum members now do so. I used to think that AS dealers would be entirely familiar with AS vans, but I suspect that systems of most vans are basically the same (and often use components from the same third-party manufacturers) which a comptetent mobile mechanic should be able to service routinely.

Re: Annual habitation service
It has been recommended to me to use a mobile engineer at about £120 and if you want can watch him and ask questions, rather than sit about for 2-3hrs or go home.
This is what I am doing this year, as having used this mobile type when we had the caravan.
It depends though if your van is still in warranty, as the first question AS will ask is "who and when was it serviced" just make sure the engineer is approved.

Re: Annual habitation service
I had my first annual habitation check just before Xmas. I was going to go down to Willersey but thought I would investigate local mobile engineers.
A local husband/wife outfit sounded perfect and I was told that the warranty would be fine as they are part of the ‘Approved mobile workshop’ scheme.
I checked with A/S and they confirmed that this was true.
The experience couldn’t have been better. They turned up on time, put covers on the floor/seats and explained everything in detail afterwards. Even better was the £115 cost without having to drive a single mile.

Well done, I think that's the way to go.
You can also stay indoors and keep warm and as you say no travelling

Re: Annual habitation service
I also have used service at home for many years both on Campers and Caravans but one thing to check BEFORE each service under warranty period is that the engineer is still registered as there have been cases where they have dropped membership and any work/service done by then does invalidate the warranty

Good point Heanorboy.
If I remember, I used the search facility on the actual AWS website to find someone.

See the post above by Dbvwt. Click on the link, then you’ll see the tab approved workshop. On the drop down menu, will be the tab “ Find an approved workshop”. There’s a search facility there using your postcode.

Re: Annual habitation service
Within 30 miles of Canterbury the above link shows 4 mobile and 1 workshop so hopefully one of those should suit. There's a couple more if you're nearer to East Sussex.

Mobile servicing for me every time. Had mine done last week by a local guy in the East Midlands who has all of the necessary OEM approvals. 110 quid can't go wrong.

Re: Annual habitation service

Re: Annual habitation service
My habitation service has been done for the last two years, by a local mobile approved engineer. My warranty is not affected and as someone said above, you can watch the process being done if you wish. This year I paid £130.

It’s a no brainier in my book.
£130 to have the habitation check done on your own drive by people who actually care about your van with the warranty unaffected (I rang A/S and they confirmed this on my 1 year old van).
Or you can travel miles and take it to one of the big names who don’t give a care and charge you in excess of £200....

And you have to wait for 3 hrs+ while they only work on it for 1-2 hrs.+ travel time and fuel. So that's half a day gone.Dbvwt wrote:Bad Penny wrote:My habitation service has been done for the last two years, by a local mobile approved engineer. Oh forgot, I always like to arrive early.

Re: Annual habitation service
They might work on it for 1hr but you will be sitting in their waiting room for 2-3 hrs while they drink coffee and read the paper trying to kid you that your £200 is well spent.
I see no reason why a hab service should take more than 1 hr.
I think you might well get a mobile engineer to come and do your service at your house while the lock down is on. They are at work, you don't have to be within 2 mtr of them, you can sit indoors. They, being self employed would be keen to get the work I think. Self employed people get diddly squat from the tax payer when they break a leg, go on holiday, get pregnant, get shut down because of Covid. . . .

I agree with Gassy.
I've had experience of three mobile engineers, and they have all been excellent.
Why not start a new thread and ask if anyone in your area can make a recommendation?

Good idea about a thread, I’ll add the guys I used absolutely.
I’d start one but I’m a bit busy at the moment watching Countdown....
