Pay increase
Today I received a letter from the Pensions Office, telling me that as I was approaching 80, I was entitled to a pay increase. I'm not sure whether I should be grateful or not. If I am careful and save it for three weeks I can buy myself a first class stamp. My dilemma is, should I offer it back to the government in view of all the money being promised for so maney things after the election. I have a strong feeling they will need it more than I do.
I remember when a family member reached this age 40 years ago, thay had the same increase 25 pence. Does that mean there has been no inflation in that time. Why don't they just forget it, as it is more of an insult than an increase.

Re: Pay increase
Don't forget the £10 Christmas bonus that's not changed in umpteen years.
I don't know why they bother...
Mind you, my wife was thrilled to receive her first fuel allowance of £100, till I informed her that my £200 fuel allowance had been reduced to £100....

Re: Pay increase
I think it's very good of the pension people to give you fair warning.
If, as your profile suggests, you are still a mere stripling of 73, then by the time you reach your 80th you will have had plenty of time to plan what you could spend your increase on.
As an aside, it could be that they are virtually guaranteeing that you are going to live another 7 years before reaching that landmark 80.
So, enjoy whatever it is you get up to.

Re: Pay increase
I don't know if Bad Penny has made a slight alteration to his age on his profile, but when I was approaching 65 my Facebook account was inundated with retirement plans etc. So I altered my profile to read ten years younger, Facebook only allow you to do this once I was informed.
It's nice to be a youngster again..

Yup, my age is now going backwards because it makes me feel 100% better,
but we’ll spotted.
