Maxview Remora
Good afternoon.
I want to replace my current, Aldi, sat system. I want a small dish to save space in the Dorset.
So far the Maxview systems look good. The Remora has suction fittings and a 40cm dish.
The Aldi version has a single suction pad which I have never used due to the unique dish fitting
making fitting to van tricky. At moment I fit it to a modified camera tripod which is not ideal.
So, has anyone experience of using the Remora system?
How close do you have to have the MH aligned N-S?
The YouTube videos show it fitting on caravans.
TIA

Re: Maxview Remora
I had a look on you tube at the Maxview dish. It looks interesting but I don't think I would buy one. For me there are problems with it, it is fairly expensive and if you do go out you have to re find the satellite on return. You also run the risk of damaging paintwork if it comes adrift. We use a Maplins suitcase system which is probably very similar to your Aldi one. I bought a satellite tripod from ebay for about £20 and our dish clamps on to that. I sometimes find we have to put the tripod a good way either to the front or the rear of the van in order to get a clear view of the sky and avoid trees or bushes. As to alignment, I carry a compass and my starting point is always to set the dish pointing to 142 degrees with the dish vertical. Using a satellite meter I can usually locate a signal within 5 degrees or so either side of that starting point. It depends where you are in the country but I have always got a signal using this method from East Anglia in the east and as far west as Galway on the west coast of Ireland. I used to use an app on my phone but don't bother anymore as the bearing varies by only a small amount across the country but the direction is very precise and the meter helps me find it. On the rare occasions when the roof aerial actually picks up a terrestrial signal, the stand lives in the small space along side the drivers seatbelt.. Hope this helps.

Re: Maxview Remora
All fair comments Justin. If I can find a way of fixing the Aldi dish to a decent tripod I will stick with that.
I have used the 43cm dish all over the UK so I know a small dish works, it was mainly the setting up that is a bit of a faff.
I have an Android app for finding the satellite which also shows any obstacles in the way.

Thanks for that. It's the fixing of the dish to the tripod that's the problem now. The 'Aldi' dish has an adjustable 'peg' about 10mm diameter. (I will try and get a photo to show it, ATM pouring with rain!)
This is the nearest picture I can find. The shiny circular suction pad top left shows the hole that the dish mount drops into.

Looking for a double sided bracket that clamps onto the tripod.
(I have got a mate with a lathe!)
