LH or RH habitation door lock for 93 Talisman

1993 Talisman.

Just picked her up a couple of weeks ago and getting to know her!

We have an issue with the lock on the habitation door - inasmuch as it can't really be opened from the outside - it almost feels like the key is going to snap.

After looking on line, she appears to be fitted with a caraloc 400, can anyone advise whether this is in fact the correct lock? It looks quite new, whereas the catch looks like the 26 year old original.

Whats the difference between a caraloc 400 and caraloc 700?

Also, we've read conflicting advice whether we need a LH or RH lock. Looking from the outside, the door is hinged on left with lock on the RHS, we're thinking we need a right hand one, but welcome any and all information!

I think (but could be totally wrong) the ''hand' of a lock refers to which side it hinges on from outside.
