Nuevo Classic - Battery Charging
Hi there,
I seem to be having trouble topping up the Vehicle Battery on my recently purchased Nuevo Classic (2009) and wanted to check I'm doing it right!
The vehicle is under cover and on mains hookup but although the Leisure battery is showing a good charge (75%+) on the Control Panel meter, the Vehicle Battery is showing a very low charge even having been on hookup for a few days. To check I'm doing it right could someone please tell me:-
* Whether the hookup should charge the Vehicle Battery as well as the Leisure battery?
* Whether I should have the Master Switch on the Control Panel set to "On" when on hookup and charging?
* Whether setting the switch on the Control Panel that toggles between Vehicle and Leisure batteries has any relevance when charging from hookup?
* When plugging in hookup I get a slight "whirring" noise for a few seconds that seems to come from the charging unit under the wardrobe - is this normal?
Any other tips most welcome!
Many thanks!
Pete

Re: Nuevo Classic - Battery Charging
At the time your van was built there were three possible type of electrical installations. Without a photo, I can't be certain but from your description, the system you have uses the toggle switch to connect the onboard charger to either the leisure OR the vehicle battery. You would normally leave it switched to leisure battery but if the van is not being run for more than a couple of weeks and you have a hookup available, switch it to the vehicle battery for 8-12 hours every two weeks.

I’m quite new with this vans set up but on mine I press the power up button, then switch charge over to vehicle and all seems to work fine.
You could put a volt meter on van battery to see what charge if any is going into it, if the hab battery is charging ok the maybe a wiring fault ?.
Possibly the vehicle battery has had its day
