VW R REG TRIDENT AND NUEVO Empty VW R REG TRIDENT AND NUEVO

Post by India Hannaford Thu Jan 10, 2019 12:51 pm

HI THERE

Having reached the age of 71 I am now looking for a bit more comfort and would really like a Nuevo.  Simpsons in Great Yarmouth have valued by VW Trident over the phone for a trade in value of about £8000, cash only £5000.  I thought it would be worth more than this as low mileage 54,000 and full service history and refurbished interior.  Anyone out there want to do a swap? I know to sell privately it would be worth more but how much more I am not sure.  Any suggestions much appreciated!

Yes, that's way way below retail. They are obviously being cautious because (presumably) they are going by your description, but even a slightly scruffy 1997 Trident should go for more than £10k. I would expect them to want to re-sell at £12k or more, with minimal work - that's just how dealers are!

You're doing the right thing. I sold my Trident and bought a Nuevo a few years back and no regrets. As for prices I have no idea. I sold mine for £14500 but it was a few years ago. It was a V reg. Have a look in auto trader to see the prices. Tridents are much sort after so you would get a lot more in a private sale

Maybe a little more info on your vehicle would help.
But from what you have said it’s an R reg VW based van
So that’s a 1998 and on a VW transporter T4.
54000 is very low miles and these are still very popular motor homes.
The most sought after would be the 2.5tdi. As it has a good reputation for reliability and performance.
I would say if it’s in good condition without any rust breaking out around the wheel arches the prices they are offering are on the low side.
I think anyone looking to BUY a vehicle like that from a reputable dealer would be expecting to pay nearer £12000 to £15000
So a trade in of £8000 seems a bit low. £5000 cash seems poor.
As I mentioned it does all come down to condition, but if yours is good I think you would be well to show them your van and get them to value it on it’s actual condition rather than over the phone.
There are quite a few on eBay auto trader etc which will give an example of what people hope to get.

Sorry I have only just read the really helpful replies.  My Trident is petrol and a rare 4x4.  Everything is working perfectly with a new fridge and electric 'box'. I still have it as to exchange just seems so expensive when it is so reliable, although I flooded the engine recently, when I just moved it slightly.  Local garage were very helpful as it was a similar reaction to too much choke.  I

This is the time of the year to sell India, private buyers want good well looked vans, especially Autosleepers.
One word of caution ,watch out for scammers, unfortunately they are on every website.

Not many 4x4 vans about, the only Syncro I've seen was at a site near the Glastonbury Tor, I think it was a Topaz.

Hi there
Perhaps in your situation a motor home broker may be a good solution. I have not used one personally, but the offer a service a little like an estate agent when buying/ selling property. They recommend a selling price but take commission on the sale. Therefore it’s in their interest to achieve the best selling price.
They deal with potential buyers, make an advertisement and post the vehicle for sale on their web site and other well known selling platforms. One of the brokers I see selling regularly is Motorhome Depot it may be worth contacting them.  You will need the info on your motor home age/ miles etc.
For what it’s woth if yours is a syncro 4x4they are becoming quite sought after as you mentioned are quite rare.
