This aire is in the area. It backs onto a building that is in the town council yard. Electric points on the wall of the building. The Marie is next door so they might let you get water in the yard.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
Another thought was to go somewhere to get battery tested and ask if you can fill up at the same time.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
A farm site may let you have water, even if it's closed. May even let you stay with electricity if you look desperate enough.
There's one at 48.52713, 0.29202 at Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe, which is near the N12 before Alençon.
There's another at 48.55378, 0.69024 at Malétable, which is nearer Rouen.
Don't know if this will help.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
Hi, thanks both! Sorry I missed this as driving. We managed to get in at La Suze-sur-sarthe which has electricity if no water. Here’s where I realise why people get an additional water inlet other than relying on the whale socket.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
Yes indeed. Not all agree with me, but I've always considered it a very restrictive system for a motorhome, and far better left where it belongs - on a caravan! A "hole in the wall" would certainly be more convenient in your current situation.Doonhamer5 wrote:Hi, thanks both! Sorry I missed this as driving. Assuming you are on the Municipal at La Suze, have you realised you are next door to the swimming pool? I'm sure you would get water there, and they are likely to be open in the evening.
If you are not there, it's at 47.888545, 0.033546 and has a huge car park, in case you want to drive there and see if there's water available.
Hope this is useful.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
When you leave La Suze tomorrow try using the toll South towards Tours (A28)and the motorway aires often have water on. If nothing else there is a site open in Tours, Les Acacais (or sumilar). There is also a site open at Futurescope, called, I think, Le Futuriste Or if you're continuing south there is an aire at St Genis de Saintonge which has leccy and usually the water is on. It is off the A10, which is also a toll.
Good luck
Good luck

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
unlike the uk, French campsites welcome MHs who are just passing through and wish to use the service points, sometimes a bourne, sometimes pay in office to use.....Doonhamer5 wrote:I thought I’d posted this already... we are overjoyed to find a pay service point on the way out of the campsite - water!!

the wonderful www.campingcar-infos.com is (IMV) the definitive Aires info repository and this particular 'service offering' is one of their aire categories you could search for.
searches (for all types of aire) can also be filtered to include those with EHU, so a really valuable resource...
good luck.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
I agree with the opinions that a new battery would be a wise investment, another point is that newer vehicles have smart alternators and as such take longer to charge batteries as they juggle saving fuel and charging batteries so do a good job of neither

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
There are currently only a few VW based Auto-Sleepers on the road with the energy recovery system (smart alternator). The new Sprinter base vehicle has it but there are none delivered to customers yet; on these vehicles the habitation charging from the alternator is being re-configured to include a battery to battery charger instead of split charge facility.

Thanks, but please don't have a debate, let's stick to the OP.

Indeed .... no debate. I genuinely did not see the reason for the off topic posts ..... however left alone now.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
Thanks to everyone for help - much appreciated! I think we will probably invest in a new battery when it’s convenient. Will see how it goes in the meantime. Both batteries showing 12.7V after the night on charge and parked up without hook-up for 2 hours. How long will I last without the heating?!

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
Sorry you are in a tight spot.
Have you tried the network of Aires known as "CampingCarPark" all across France? Google it if you have mobile data. The website has info on each Aire and is easily accessed on a map of France. Often 10 to 12 Euros per night payable by Mastercard. You can join the network (4 Euros ish) at the barrier. Most have hardstanding, water, EHU (6Amps commonly) AND wifi all included in the 24 hour fee. ..During the Beast of the East this Feb. only a few had water turned off and, yes cemeteries or knock on any door- cap in hand with an appropriate phrase to the effect that you are desperate. Best not to mention Macron at the moment!
Presumably you have a sealed battery. If not, you need a hydrometer to check individual cells. Best Wishes.

That Aire at Nonacourt is often a porridge stop for us . It's near the Sapeurs Pompiers who will surely give you water.

Re: Leisure battery voltage - HELP PLEASE?
Not all aires have the water turned off. We have been in that position a few times, needing water in the winter, we have called into Maries in small villages and asked if they can turn the water on for us.
They invariably do.
Or look for a small aire with custom facilities, that usually means a tap and a drain, usually free and probably still working at the moment.
You might find some motorway service areas have water available, but I can’t help with electricity.
Or, as Paul says above, a churchyard may have a working tap you
can use.
Where are you headed to?

I think this thread has run its course. Doonhamer 5 has water and both batteries are fully charged.
