Freezer Removed from Dometic Fridge
I have just discovered that the freezer compartment is removable in my Dometic RMS 8501 fridge so I promptly went out and removed it because I have little use for a freezer in a campervan.
Has anyone else done this?
Are there any unwanted side effects?

Re: Freezer Removed from Dometic Fridge
Other than loss of a freezer section, can't see any downsides. An extra shelf can be fitted to increase storage space.
Personally we find the freezer section useful for prefrozen meals from home at the start of a trip, and if you put a couple of frozen fridge blocks in it helps stop thawing of the contents on stops along the journey.

I'm not sure if it's true of all models, but on another forum someone reported that removing the freezer section also reduced the power consumption of the fridge a little. Though nobody was too sure why!

Re: Freezer Removed from Dometic Fridge
I wonder if removing the freezer box helps get a lower temp in the main fridge area. I can't remove mine but despite getting a temp of -16 in the freezer box, the main fridge never gets below 8 degrees. But we do use the freezer so even if it was removable we wouldn't, how would the other half get ice for her G&T.

We have removed the freezer section from the fridge in our new Swift. We have had to find alternatives to frozen veg and eat the ice cream quickly but the space has been filled now so no going back for us.
