Washing up bowl! Empty Washing up bowl!

Post by Mabel98 Sun Sep 02, 2018 9:43 pm

Has anyone ever found a washing up bowl small enough to fit in the sink in a kemerton? Possibly a silly question but having now had 7 nights in our new “home” I an finding it irritating not having a bowl and it seems hard to find one small enough? A minor issue but would be good to find one.

Not sure if it is the same size as the one in the fairford.....likely yes? Then yes there are basins out there. I think we got ours from a caravan and motorhome store in Perth. Assuming similar places might sell small basins too. Think there is also a range of small collapsible basins. We have buckets and a collapsible colander ....good strong quality too.

If it is the same size sink as the Kingham then yes.  We bought a bowl from Tesco.  I'm not sure they are still in stock but it fit nicely.

Thanks for these replies. I imagine it is the same size. Good to know bowls have been found. Maybe my measurements have been too conservative as measured it 20cm x 30cm and on line nothing seems that small. Maybe it will be a matter of buying and trying!

I'm curious - why does anyone need a washing up bowl when washing dishes in the motorhome - isn't that what the sink's for?    confused3

The only reason we use a washing up bowl at home is because the sink is so large it would need too much water to fill it rather than a bowl.  The sink in the motorhome is much smaller so ideal size for washing up.   allthumbz

We do carry a washing up bowl in the motorhome but this is for taking washing up to campsite washing up facilities when available and we chose that deliberately to be larger than the motorhome sink so it would carry more. When not in use, it's kept under the sink and used to store stuff.
Each to their own, I guess.    up!

Thanks Pauljeff. Useful to know those dimensions fit. I am a fan of collapsibles  having collapsible kettle, colander and storage bowls from VW days.
Roger, I use a bowl in the van as otherwise you haven’t got the sink free for pouring other waste down and you can stack plates round the bowl to drain. I, well husband, uses washing up blocks when possible but not in the rain/cold etc. We all have our little ways!

I always use a bowl, stops knives etc. scratching sink bottom, kinder to crockery and glasses if using real pots,

I never use communal washing sinks, cannot stand the sight of others dinners in the sink / plug hole.uhh!!! by the time I could have walked there carrying pots, they are already washed and dried. another reason for not using them. JMHO.

We have a 2015 Kemerton and use a collapsible rectangular bowl of the type shown in the link below for washing up at campsite sinks.  It also fits neatly in the sink if needed and when collapsed it stows under the sink - on the top shelf of the under-sink cupboard.  If we could remember how to add a picture here we’d show you but rest assured it fits perfectly.

Washing up bowl! Empty Re: Washing up bowl!

Mabel , we kept the basin and draining board from our old Elddis motorhome (2009/10) It is the perfect fit for our Kemerton sink and the clip on draining board fits the side of the sink exactly . I am sure I read somewhere that these sinks were supplied with that basin / drainer combination. Our previous Swift caravan had exactly the same basin so perhaps a visit to an Elddis / Swift dealer would turn up the correct basin. It is an exact fit and is a silver grey colour...

A picture paints a thousand words thanks kemerton bath. Useful info about the eldis too. We do have a plastic removable drainer but if there was a bowl it isn’t there now! Like above post I find without a bowl i scratch the sink! Should solve my problem soon with all these tips.

Mabel, we found a bowl in a local discount store and bought two to have a spare. Another reason for using a bowl is to stop any food residue going down the drain and into the tank. After washing up we pour the dirty water into a bucket and dispose of it in the site drain or, if on a CL, into the nearest hedge.

Well I am pleased to have generated such an informative conversation on washing up in an Auto-Sleeper. The moment of truth has arrived. We have purchased a £2.00rectangular bowl from the range and a collapsible one from Wilko. Both will be tried tomorrow as it was too wet where we live to go down to Kevin Kemerton when we got home.
Decision tomorrow. Watch this space.
