Hello to all
We are Freda & Dave from Oxford, we joined a few months ago when we bought an Autosleeper Symbol- 1999 2.0i...but all went wrong within the 1st week of our purchase.
I wanted to ask so many questions about the problems we encountered but thought i would keep the massive headache too ourselves for a period of time while i tried to sort it out.
Thankfully that headache is now just a dull ache. Within the 1st month we had to have a new gearbox fitted as most gears were crunching, we thought it was the clutch..but no, it was the gearbox, seems it was caused by water getting in through the vent on gearbox. But £2000.00 later we had a new recon gearbox and new clutch fitted - Plus they fitted the rubber drain hose that was missing which drains the water away from it flowing into gearbox (which was cause of gearbox problem).
Many thanks to Gloucester road gearboxes in Bristol who fitted this when all other places (which there were so many) couldn't . We decided to have a few days holiday on way back too Oxford and home..but then we came across the next big problem that was worse...stalling ..every time we slowed down or stopped at roundabouts etc..it was so dangerous that we gave up on the break and made sure we stayed as best as possible on motorway to keep at a good speed all the way, we got home and it took me 6 restarts of engine just to get in the driveway and park...the next day i arranged to take her to OAKEYS Garage in Carterton...and would you believe it..i did not have one stalling problem !!! They kept it for a few days and called me saying ..there is no problem and she is running perfect...it seems the thrashing i gave her on motorway (not like Basil Fawlty..lol) had cleared what ever the problem was.
A long introduction for a Newbie i know ...so to cut this long story short now, she is going great guns now, and so enjoying the weekends away on lots of different sites and enjoying this fantastic weather and chilling.
ohhhh ...does anyone know where i can get a Charcoal canister/evap purge unit from to fit this Symbol as this was the stalling problem...
Thank you for listening to an old retired caretaker.

Hi and welcome. Like you had/have a stalling problem on a 2.0L petrol Boxer. Can I ask what engine you have in yours (same year as ours). Garage fixed but still not 100% satisfied.

Re: Hello to all
Hello we had stalling problems on this year and model, wasted a lot of time and money being told by garages no fault found or your not used to driving in in mountains.on ours the fault was known to a local garage who replaced the Speedo drive cable and the short nylon hexangle drive coupling from gearbox .this wears and affects the voltage to fuel supply causing stalling 100% fix on ours, hope you get it going properly soon
