New to the Forum
Hi all, I'm a retired fire officer/health & safety consultant. Had caravans ways back but back injury has prevented us acquiring another. Recently had the chance to save the motorvan my late Mum had for the last 11 years of her life, and managed to buy it. It's in a pretty poor state mechanically, and cosmetically outside it's suffered from being abandoned in a yard for over 6 years - but, it's dry inside, tidy and just needs a lot of mechanical help to get back in the game. And that's where I come in - restore it and use it in memory of my Mum!
Glad to be admitted to the forum. Look forward to learning from y'all about these well-built vehicles.
Cheers for now

Hi and welcome to the ASOF.
We have another member who took on a similar van - a Talisman I think? which had been stood neglected for a few years. Unfortunately, old age is playing tricks with my memory and I can't remember his username.
Hopefully he'll respond to your post and you can compare notes?

Re: New to the Forum
Thanks for the welcome. Happy to say have made really good progress over the last 3 months or so. The van is almost ready for its first MoT after nearly 7 years off road. Biggest challenge thus far is trying to find the following:
1 Off-side fixed side window (the rear pane in the sliding pair)
2 D seals for the side sliding window frames.
3 Channel guides for the sliding windows (both sides).
The original manufacturer apparently closed its doors in 2000. Quote I've had for a single re-manufactured window was scary!
Really looking forward to getting roadworthy and trying the ol' girl out!!

Re: New to the Forum
Hi Ian,
I joined the forum a few weeks ago after buying a 1993 Clubman GL at the end of July, so quite likely we will be sharing a few common problems from time to time.
Considering ours hadn't been used much for the last two years, it was in a generally good condition although there were lots of small things that needed attending to. We've used it for a couple of fairly close overnights to find out what we need to do and will be doing a longer trip at the end of September. Just added a cheap reversing camera which has been a great help and replaced most of the old tube lighting with LED strips in the old housings. If you have any mods you want to share or problems to solve I will be very interested in hearing about them and there is sure to be plenty of help on the forum.
Roger

Hi Roger,
Haven’t really started to get to grips with the habitation area yet. It’s all been action to rebuild the engine, refurb running gear and in between, fettling a few things on the outside of the van. I did find that the waste tank had a hole melted into one side due to exhaust proximity, so maybe that’s one to watch.
The rear cross beam that the s/s bumper and corner steadies are attached to had been clouted on one corner and bent in and down, so had fun getting that out and straightening everything before replacement!!
Think once we have an MoT we’ll approach things in the same way you have; short, local shake-down trips to see what works and what doesn’t!!
