Heating Oil rip off
Just had a look at boilerjuice this morning and the average price of domestic heating oil shot up by 4p a litre yesterday, meanwhile crude oil dropped a little.
As if oil suppliers would take advantage of the cold snap, surely not. .........(and don't call me Shirley)

Try getting a quote from https://www.oilnrg.co.uk/ they sometimes come out a bit cheaper.

Thanks Les
I wasn't looking to order I paid 10 pence a litre less than the online companies by shopping around last week just making the point they are on the make as soon as any opportunity arises.

I have just today finished converting my boiler to run on my home made bio diesel. Its under test at the moment. If all is well then I wont get ripped off anymore by the oil companies. Its costing me about 30p per litre.

Get a group of you to place one order for 10,500 liters (small tanker load) that all get dropped in one visit and one person pays for it (watch out for the taxman but this accounts for one of the big savings) and you'll be staggered how much you will save.
We brim our tanks in mid to late October so that we get through to May and avoid all the silly prices.
The great thing is if we use more than 10,500 liters they make a second visit at the same rate even though we are 65 miles away from the distribution centre.
Any topup before the October one are self managed.
We have 6 in our group and October topups are normally 1750-2500 litres each.
Landyman, whats involved in converting to Bio-Diesel?

It works best on older boilers. Mine is a worcester heatslave combi.
If you have the installation instructions it would tell you the settings for 35sec oil (diesel).
Just set it for that, which is basically bigger nozzle, higher pump pressure and more air.

I had worked out I had enough to get me through to the spring and miss the silly season for oil prices.
Then last week I had to decant 150L to my son who had managed to run dry on a Friday and no delivery until Wednesday
Not my favourite offspring
Just as well I adore my granddaughters.

Like others, we fill the tank to the top in September/October before the first cold snap gives everyone a quick reminder.
I use boilerjuice as well. You have to accurately know the amount you need to order so I use a dipstick which has all the historic levels/orders marked on it.

Re: Heating Oil rip off
Prices have dropped a bit around here but the problem I had today was the lead time with most suppliers quoting circa 2 weeks.
I will have to eke out my last few litres carefully (or go raid the son's tank).
We have a nice steel rectangular tank which means the dipstick method is easy to calculate, 1cm = 11.163 litres

Top up now!!!!
Price on boilerjuice currently below 20p a litre but showing first signs of returning to normal. We normally manage less than their rate by ringing around. Topped up at 29p and thought that was a bargain but below 20p is a gift!!
