A Grumpy Scottish OM
MY wasn't the BBC1 NY prog. dire in parts!!
Apart from the fireworks, C&B and perhaps the Auld Lang Syne that was it. The Pipe Band were smart but why not play a rousing melody??
There you are GRUMP GRUMP to yous All
At least we have a get together over lunchtime with friends & neighbours to come.

Agreed!
I managed to find BBC One Scotland on Sky and watched that instead.

We probably watch more TV over the festive period than any other time and I think it has been pretty dire throughout the last couple of weeks with repeats and repeats of repeats. Last nights offerings were particularly poor, excepting the Edinburgh fireworks, but the upside is it sent me off early to get a good nights sleep .

Happy New Year all! Fortunately we were out for NY so missed all TV! However, I do agree that the Christmas schedules were rubbish and not worth the licence fee nor any cable subscriptions! I think the TV companies are really struggling and cant seem to come up with any new ideas and seem to trot out 2 hour 'specials' of the soaps in the vain hope this will appear to viewers.
Perhaps TV has had its day? Discuss!!

Re: A Grumpy Scottish OM
I was perfectly content with the TV output this year.
As usual I limited myself to watching three programmes over the festive period.
I watched Maigret, Gone Girl and Alice in Wonderland.
All three were fine productions and kept my attention.
Does one need more?

Roger that was the one I was moaning about or did you perhaps watch BBC Alba?
BBC1 Scotland is our main BBC provider on Sky and terrestrial here, ITV Border & Tyne Tees,
or STV if north of Ballantrae!
Thank goodness (at a price) for Sky Bond ,sorry Q.

Probably watched the least amount of TV over this Christmas than any other year. Gone are the times of getting the double RT to plan the holiday viewing, not enough to make it worth it.
Ex Machina did stand out, now watching Spectre.

Sorry, frederic, I forgot you're north of the border. The BBC offering darn sarf was even worse, the bit compered by Jackie Bird on BBC Scotland was actually better, believe it or not. We did record the London fireworks on BBC London to watch afterwards, bigger display but the Edinburgh fireworks had better coordinated music. I also checked out the offering on STV player and that seemed dire too.
Not watched much else apart from Maigret, Christmas University Challenge plus repeats of Death in Paradise just to take our minds off the depressing weather here.

Re: A Grumpy Scottish OM
Maigret was good, Gone Girl was ok until the improbable ending (sorry if you've not see it yet) and Alice in Wonderland was a repeat. Telly would have been ok if you want Harry Potter, Carry on, Indiana Jones or Lord of the Rings repeats or wall to wall animation films. Ok, I own up, over the Christmas and New Year period we watch more TV than normal for entertainment. I suspect the execs of the TV companies think were all too "elated" to notice how much rubbish, overlaid by fake snow, is being fed to us.nuevoboy wrote:I was perfectly content with the TV output this year.
