Just noticed in the free Daily Wail (that Mrs Gromit got from Safeways ) the name "Eurotunnel" has been changed to "GetLink".

Quote from a spokesman: -- "It's Get – go and acquire – and Link. It's not fancy, it's not invented. It's very Anglo-Saxon – and a large part of our customer base and investor base is Anglo-Saxon.'"

It's also a tunnel to and from Europe.

Which puerile pillock way up in the management structure thinks it's clever to "not invent" a new name which means absolutely nothing without a contrived explanation?? shrugg

Well it's a French company and obviously want to make our divorce from 'Euro'pe as painful as possible.

Dave. Exactly my reaction when I heard it this morning. In a similar way many well known company names have been reduce to meaningless, and instantly forgettable, initials.

What so was wrong with "Marathon" bars that they suddenly had to be re-named as "Snickers"? Do we have to follow the Yanks in everything!!!!

Apparently we do . . .

Treets became M&Ms
Dime bars are now Daim
Jif has become Cif
Etc., etc..

Daftest of all perhaps - I had an email a week or two ago informing me that Yahoo is now to be known as Oath?????? scratch head

GetLink...really catchy isn't it ! Having taught in a boys school throughout most of my career Eurotunnel's Anglo-Saxon use of the word" get" wasn't the same one that first came to my mind.

These corporate identity changes aren't all bad though. The school I taught at changed name and, at the same time, adopted a common printing font and paperwork style throughout the school ( sorry, "Academy"). This resulted in most of our internal forms and stationery becoming redundant and, even though I retired many years ago, I have never bought rough paper or notepads since.

Daily Wail - love it- your name for it Dave, not the paper itself!

Listen very carefully I shall say this only once....

As I understand it the overall group name is changing to Getlink not Eurotunnel itself which will still trade with the same name. The group is also planning to launch Eleclink which will connect the UK power grid to the French power grid..... just as the UK is leaving Europe confused3

Still you can't really expect the press to get the facts right now can you. hugegrins

It's pathetic that they cannot be more imaginative. After all, when PowerGen amalgamated with their Italian counterpart, they called it PowerGenitalia. Honest!

Thanks for that... it seems the Company that runs/owns Eurotunnel, 'Group Eurotunnel' has changed its name.. I reckon the tunnel will still be called Eurotunnel/le shuttle.. we'll see.

They also run Europorte, Eleclink, and CIFFCO, maybe even more..
