Fitted some bog standard rubber universal mud flaps. Used the holes already in the wheel arch edge -just push out the plastic inserts. For the inner edge of the mudflap I have used the U clamp provided in the kit and drilled a hole in the flat bottom of the U and then clamped it to the protruding joint of the inner wing. Used stainless steel bolts and washers throughout. Pics below. Still get some side splashes but certainly better than it was! smile!

Thanks for the pics Moggy....

I was thinking of fitting some of the genuine mudflaps as they are a moulded fit, but as the side steps protrude slightly further than the arches not sure what modification would be needed to get a good fit, has anyone fitted the Fiat/Peugeot flaps? You can get them on ebay here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Geniene-Fiat-Ducato-X250-Front-Mudflaps-/230520237271

Another set here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Ducato-Front-Mudflaps-Genuine-Sept-2006-onwards-/180796324302?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a184cf9ce

Like you say they probably wouldn't fit any better especially if they are more rigid and moulded which they appear to be...

Are your arches filled with the plastic inserts Dux? (Moggy said he removed his) ours are missing for some reason?

I'll have to check about the wheel arches - I'm en route at the moment (in a really depressing Holiday Inn at Heathrow - full of Pseuds loudly comparing their cruise line experiences - waiting for an 0700 flight tomorrow.)

Autosleeper Nuevo Mud Flaps fitted Empty mud flaps

Post by murph Sat Feb 04, 2012 9:36 am

Hi All,
Just home for the weekend, but regarding mud flaps, I fitted some before I went across, to try and stop mud etc getting on the side where the body widens out at the back of the cab, similar to the ones in the photo, but they arn't as effective as I had hoped, the offending area still gets filthy.

Just went to get some for my Worcester from Mercedes and the sprinter ones don't fit. Autosleepers cannot help either so looking for anyone that has fitted front mud flaps to 2006> Sprinter and knows where I can get some!!

It would be nice if Auto-Sleepers could integrate some kind of spolier or wheel arch extension into the GRP moulding that forms the cab steps and acts as a guard, would look quite nice as well... the problem is that the GRP steps protrude beyond the arch instead of just behind (not sure why?) making the fitting of standard base vehicle manufactured mudflaps far from ideal.

I just had a thought that my son makes surfboards, perhaps with a suitable mould it would be possible to make something along those lines.... interesting idea!

Hmmm Mudflaps.
Would be nice if the manufacturers built them into the design (same as buildings forget bin storage and how bin men will collect them)
Ford Transit Mudflaps -fitted 2005 - fitting time 30 minutes for 4. Including admiration of finished product, getting tools out and tidying up.
Peugeot Boxer -2012 - probably 2 hours per flap as fittings needed modifying and bolts shortened. Lots of swearing too.

For those of you who have fitted mud flaps did it make any difference. e'g' Did it stop the mud etc from splashing onto the body work.

My van has front and rear mud flaps, almost the same as moggys, the sides and rear of the van get covered in sprayed mud of the local roads, most of the mud sticks to the flaps.
Would I put them on again confused3 I think I would look for some "cats whiskers" to fit, like the ones we had on the lorries and buses.

I fitted a set of genuine sprinter ones to my vw lt (same chassis as sprinter) they are the molded type went to scotland last week and they don't look like they had any effect the doors and sides are still full of dirt and the back is thick with dirt despite having rear flaps. So if i was doing it again i would not bother.

My solution was to go to Truck Stop and buy a pair of truck flaps which I cut down to shape. I prefabricated with cardboard and cut with a Stanley knife - cost about £15. Purchased some mudflap clamps- cost £8 - from the local accessory shop and screwed them straight on. A big improvement for sure but hasn't completely solved the problem from the front wheels.

Next job will be to get some more for the back and replace the A/S ones which are really too small and do not stop the step getting filthy!!

Just picking up on this thread after searching for mud flaps. Fitted genuine Merc ones which were a perfect fit and they have stopped a lot of the underbody dirt BUT the front sides of the body still get absolutely filthy.
Anyone come up with a mod since this thread was active (Nov 12).?
Thanks.

I've not heard of anything better.

I have steps as part of the bodywork outside the cab doors so had to 'sculpture' the Mercedes mud flaps around them. It was worth it as it very significantly reduced the dirt on the van sides but as you say the front of the side still takes a big hit.

They fitted my 2011 Neuvo Lancashire. The step bends them very slightly but once all bolted up do the job very nicely. allthumbz
