Boxer Door Mirrors
Has anyone had experience of replacing the standard door mirror on a Boxer cab with a short arm version? Reason for asking is that we have fallen foul of having a mirror hit on a narrow road.

Re: Boxer Door Mirrors
We have a Mercedes and find the mirrors very wide and catch everything they pass!!
Am also looking for mirror covers similar to those we had for the Nuevo but I understand they are not made for the Mercedes only Boxer Mirrors

Can anyone supply any info on this modification (that doesn't involve joining a club)?

Tie a string to the wiring before you pull it out. Use the string to pull the new wiring through

The club only £20 a year I found well worth it with the mods and new ideas put forward by members, as well as all the other benefits

You can get chrome mirror covers for the sprinter, look on ebay, a tip though is to make sure they are really well greased. We have been hit twice now by passing vehicles and both times the mirror just folded as it should with no damage at all. It would never have done that without greasing thoroughly as they are very stiff to fold when delivered new. For that reason we have never bothered with mirror covers!!

Re: Boxer Door Mirrors
Groundhog: whilst you're right to remind us that the purpose of a folding mirror is to fold, not break, on impact, and whilst you're right to remind us to lubricate the mirror well, I'd be somewhat concerned that if my mirror is liberally lubricated it may shudder as my speed increases the buffeting.
Need I worry about that?
If not, how do you get grease (e.g high lubricity) into the hinges?
Thanks,
Cymro

Thank you for the info Groundhog. I will check out eBay.
Yes, we did have a problem when we first had the Mercedes, mirrors barely moved at all. I put a silicone spray on it it seemed to work ok.

Re: Boxer Door Mirrors
Cymro: My slightly off topic comments was aimed at Miss Daisy May who asked about the Mercedes mirror, the design is very easy to lubricate and they are notoriously hard to fold with three or four click positions that are very solid. I am afraid I have no idea about the Peugeot mirrors or how they work

Re: Boxer Door Mirrors
Thanks, Groundhog - I now understand. I have, in fact, sprayed some silicone lubricant as best I can, and used some high lubricity grease. The mirrors don't seem to have been affected by my efforts. They are not difficult to pull in, but don't shudder with wind buffeting. But I don't know how they'd cope with a clash of mirrors - and I hope never to find out! I'm just trying to be prepared.

Re: Boxer Door Mirrors
Cymro, from an encounter in Norway between a Brit slightly too far left and a Norwegian slightly too far left and definitely too fast comming the other way I can confirm that the mirrors do fold flat quite redilly but with a very loud bang.
The glass fell out but was retained by some leads (heater?) and the mirror protector was displaced but remained on the mirror.

Re: Boxer Door Mirrors
Thanks, Dave - that's a comfort to know.
I've found that the width of the Nuevo has been the biggest challenge since migrating from a Clubman. I live in a rural area, and all roads out of our village have no pavements but centuries-old hedges. Encountering school buses etc sends the blood pressure high!
I bought mirror guards immediately upon buying the Nuevo.
I passed a test recently in France, where the stone pillars of our friends' new house in a city were 4cm wider each side than the Nuevo - with mirrors folded!! Had to have them folded as pillars were higher than them. So I got the husband of our friends to stop the traffic whilst I lined up the van, and then, with the 2 ladies standing on the drive in front of me, each watching their side of the van, I inched my way in. Same palaver to leave.
