Breakdown cover for Ireland / Europe
We have a 17 year old Peugeot Boxer and currently have breakdown cover in the UK with Green Flag. We are off to Ireland for a few weeks in July and August and are getting very high quotes for a van of that age for single trip cover. Anybody know of any good, cheap cover?
Cheers in advance.

I've just come back from Ireland and 'Boundless' from CMSA but you need to get someone to get you in using their e-mail address. My full cover was £98 with a £25 joining fee.
There is a full thread try 'Ireland Breakdown Cover in the search box, I'll look too and if I find anything more useful I'll let you know.
If you're going to Rosslare there's a brand new campsite 5 minutes from the port IOAB adventure centre on the righ hand side of the road. Ideal for a stopover. Very professional but huge, cracking toilet blocks too. 29 euro for 1 night inc electric- a bit expensive but worth it for the convenience especially for the early check-in on return. Don't bother with Carne beach, hardly worth the hassle of finding it.
PM me if you'd like more info.

Adrian Flux is one of the more flexible insurers, who do not always allow the computer to do all their thinking for them!!
Worth a phone call?

As sole driver the CSMA would repatriate me if unable to drive. I had similar but much more expensive cover with Green Flag because my late wife couldn't drive and was disabled.

Re: Breakdown cover for Ireland / Europe
We have generally used the European breakdown cover included with our Safeguard van insurance. The only year we had to purchase more (from Europ Assistance) was when we went to Iceland where the Safeguard/AA breakdown assurance didn't apply.
However our Harmony is more than 21 years old and Safeguard's AA insurance doesn't apply. Not been abroad for a couple of years so will need to cross this bridge in the future.

Have you considered the German company ADAC. I have used them for a number of years and had no problems due to the age (27 years old) of my Talisman. They sorted a problem with my starter motor when in Germany in 2010 - very efficient and no language problems. They also assisted with a flat tyre when in the UK (I live in the Irish Republic) although in this case it was the AA who responded to my call for help.
My cover costs approx 90 euro a year and covers both me and my wife while in any car or motorhome either as driver or passenger.

I use the Nationwide Flexplus account as well. As far as I know, they don't specify an age limit (for the van that is!). The monthly account fee is going up to £13 in October but, as I run a car as well, this is good value breakdown cover as well as all the other bits and bobs you get with this account.
BTW if you decide to open an account, get introduced by another account holder and you each get £100
