Silence please !
Doesn't anyone do silence anymore ?
We're just back from 4 weeks in a hot France staying mainly on municipal sites. Instead of the traditional post- lunch period of silence, when you could sleep or read undisturbed, we found that this is increasingly often the loud chat time or the watch TV with doors and windows open time.
We're now at home and my anticipated peaceful afternoon in a shady garden has been ruined by some idiot washing his car with beat radio on full volume. I guess it doesn't even cross his mind that this might be irritating more than just me.
If it wasn't for the fact that it would involve quite a long, hot walk- and he's probably bigger than me- I'd go and explain antisocial behaviour to him.

We checked in to a nice site in Sweden the other day. Very little noise from anywhere
Except the europop constantly playing in the toilet block.

We've also just returned from France, and I have to agree with Quilter. Generally speaking the noise was not too intrusive, but there do seem to be a lot more people who can't live without it.
I don't mind the loud music in the toilets though. Saves having to cough loudly at key intervals during your visit!!!

I can cope with music in the toilet block but am not that keen on live radio. First thing in the morning the non- stop frantic chat means I start rushing along with it. The Today programme is quite calming by comparison.

Germany's the place then, they have quiet time". Someone was told off on a site at Freiburg for filling his aquaroll during quiet time and you're not allowed to drive on or off the site. I think it was 12 till 3 in the afternoon and 10 till 7 or something at night.

I'm glad it continues. It's years since we camped in Germany but I still laugh to remember a hot day in Freiburg during the mittagsruhe period. I'd got really nasty hay fever and could not stop sneezing. Each time I did I had a chorus of " gesundheit"s from surrounding vans. In the end I was so embarrassed I had to stick my head under a pillow before sneezing.

We're regular visitors to Cyprus and, if you encounter a noisy group eating in a restaurant, you can almost guarantee they will be from Sweden. I guess they get all the noise out their system abroad so they can be quiet at home
