Insurance, another "why can't they" moan...
My van insurance expires in a few months time while I should be away, so I thought I would check what else is available.
I'm not ready to change so didn't really want to do it by phone, besides I prefer the impersonal touch of websites.
The first problem I had was most quotes are only available for 30 days but I need a couple of months. Still, to get a comparison I used a date within 30 days if I couldn't use the correct date.
SAGA gave me a quote for the correct starting date and while higher than I paid last year was a good one to base any other quotes on.
I reluctantly went to a "comparison" site - reluctant because the TV adverts make me want to avoid them all - and typed in my details, all 3612 pages of it. After pressing the submit button I got 3 quotes back, all dearer than SAGA and page after page of excuses as to why other companies won't quote in some language I am unfamiliar with. I recognised the words as English but not the sentences.
One of the companies that wouldn't quote was Comfort and I remember seeing that mentioned on here as being a company to look at. Again, pages and pages of information required and I finally get to the "our assumptions" page. If all their assumptions are acceptable, tick the box and a quote will be on its way. Only, in my case, some of the assumptions are not correct. I have a 3-year license on medical grounds and cannot use the online system, I have to phone up them up.
And finally on to my moan. Why does the assumptions page have to be so far into the process? Why not state them at the beginning so that you know to phone or go elsewhere?

I'm with you when it comes to car insurance always shop around but usually find the cheapest quote on line then call the renewal dept of my current provider. They usually put you through to retension dept who miraculously match the cheapest quote. It is just a racket..
Funnily enough have been with c anc c for caravan and motorhome insurance for years . Always been the cheapest ar renewal time for me so not needed to go elsewhere.

I'm not keen on this time of year as well. I'll switch to save £50 quid but for £30 it's not worth the hassle.
