Battery location - Bourton
Hi, daft question? I have purchased a Bourton and would like to locate the vehicle battery. I've found the domestic battery under the passenger seat. The Merc handbook suggested two options, in a he engine compartment or under the drivers footwell.

Under the Nearside footwell not offside, lift the floormats and you will see a hatch cover in front of the passenger seat, the battery is under here, you will find City west commercials on the Sowton ind. estate Exeter very good for servicing, we use them, enjoy your Bourton, we love ours.

I have lifted the carpet and found tools but no battery hatch! Is it under the grey soundproofing?

it is before the tool section, on the flat bit of floor where you would put your feet, I think it is secured with screws

The Handbook for my 2011 MB says in Driver's Footwell, under grey floor trim, remove edge trim screws first, the the battery bow is revealed. Page207. 2014 manual/handbook may be different page, but should be there somewhere. LHD Sprinters are in otherside but still driver's footwell.

Hi Starlight, "Welcome to the club" as the saying goes. "Good evening" also to Ploughlin and Padraigpost (Don) above.
As you see above, we are trying to help you. I live very close to you, I'm retired from working and am willing to give you practical help/knowledge if you require. Just let me know via ASOF?
Regards, Barry.

Good day Starlight, a warm welcome to ASOF from a decidedly damp Hampshire. Yes, as confirmed by others the vehicle battery in under the nearside (i.e passengers side on H drive vehicles - the MB handbook shows this side being the drivers side!) footwell, aft of the tool 'cupboard'. As Ploughlin notes and noting I found ours yesterday and you need to remove the plastic trim which holds the grey 'soundproofing' under which you will find a black steel cover with the battery below.
A range of allen keys was needed to remove the trim, cover etc.

Thanks all. I'll take a look under the soundproofing. I was considering installing a battery tender to the vehicle battery as whilst on ehu it's only the domestic that is being charged? Looks like I will need to find the jump start points under the bonnet.

Hi Starlight, as noted on another post, assuming you have a Sargent EC500 PSU if you set the control panel to 'smart charge' the unit charges habitation battery then switches automatically to vehicle battery, and vice versa. See https://sargentltd.co.uk/tech-support/faqs

I'll need to see what charger I have. I should have identified why I wanted to locate the vehicle battery. I was advised by the previous owner that the mains charger only charged the leisure battery. The vehicle battery relied on the alternator for charge. The reason for trying to find the vehicle battery was to check that "fact". It would seem very odd that once plugged into the mains that the vehicle battery was not charged at the same time as the leisure battery. I'm a novice here and am learning all the time.

I always thought that once the leisure battery was full the Sargent system automatically switches to charging the engine battery when connected to the mains, it does on mine and our van is two years older than yours so I cannot imagine they have taken a step backwards! I suspect the previous owner was wrong about that?

Good day all, yes, according to Sargent, the smart charge is supposed to work as per groundhogs description. See; https://sargentltd.co.uk/tech-support/article/EC500-System/18
