Exactly the point I made earlier in the thread.
Absolutely, I was reinforcing the point, not trying to claim ownership of it.
If you hire two spaces, does it make any difference what you put in them?? I would also be interested in her answer to that.
I shall be asking that question, in a humble and non antagonistic manner, or at least, I'll do my best.
In the meantime, keep taking the tablets!
It's probably best if I take that as a compliment?

Didn't think you were trying to pinch the comment, but I wasn't sure if you had seen it. I was also doing a bit of reinforcing.
Humble and with a (virtual) smile is always best. Save showing the teeth until the last resort!
As for the tablets - I certainly need some to keep me calm when I see or read about all the restrictions in this country. There is a (conspiracy) theory that the two major clubs are behind a lot of them in order to drum up trade. It seems a bit unlikely to me, but who knows. If there's money in there are few limits these days.

Re: Another restriction.
Has anyone obtained a copy of the actual Order governing parking in these places? That would have to define exactly what is and is not permitted and valid penalties can only be issued for contravention of that.
From the wording of the response, I suspect that it merely mentions weight, not specifically motorhomes. How would they be able to measure the weight of any vehicles they suspect to be overweight?
Some of the onstreet parking areas in North Berwick have signs limiting the height of vehicles in certain areas, where this is no possibility of having any physical barrier in place. When I asked a friendly local warden how he enforced this, his response was that he didn't as he wasn't issued with any device to measure the heights and that it was just a deterrent.
cheers
Roger

I'm thinking that, with a little effort, we might be able to enter into a democratic policy discussion with our local councils to both clarify and have a voice in making, and even adjusting these policies.
Don't forget that, in this new age, adapting to populism is at the forefront of their concerns.
It may be that they just haven't previously had any reason to think them through properly with regard to motorhomes.

That's probably the truth of it - and not only in your area.meanchris wrote:It may be that they just haven't previously had any reason to think them through properly with regard to motorhomes.
It amazes me how many people look quite shocked when we say we are going away in the van at this time of year. They always say, "But it's freezing cold . . . . . etc. " indicating that they have not the slightest idea of what life in the van is like.
I strongly suspect many council workers are the same. They have no idea of the nature of the beast, and give it little thought other than to ban them in case they are owned by gypsies. (Can I call them that these days??)

After numerous enquires I found out that indeed the sign went up over a year ago, but then mysteriously it went missing, only to be replaced by another some time later. And no, it wasn't me!

That's allowed Dave, but for goodness sake, don't abbreviate it... Hanging offence I'm told. Travellers is the correct word.Gromit wrote:

Re: Another restriction.
Are we not in danger of assuming that local government officers care about tourism or even their local taxpayers?
I looked recently for picnic areas around Derbyshire. There are dozens in very nice places but 90% have height barriers. So Derbyshire is out for days out. Staffordshire County Council put a barrier on the entrance to Branston Water park. When I queried it I was told it was to "deter travellers" Well it deters me and I pay rates for that park.
Perhaps emails to the local tourist board might have more effect? I doubt it.
