Hi from South Somerset
Hi all.
I've been putting this off for a week or so now as I'm sure that once I've 'come clean' I'll be thrown out on my ear as an interloper
We bought our 1995 LWB Transit Mk5 coachbuilt 5 years ago now and despite my initial reservations we have loved every minute spent in 'Mavis '
Our van was built in 1995 by a rival Company to AS but built in the identical layout and style as the fabulous Duetto .In my opinion this layout has never been surpassed and the extraordinary popularity and high prices the 90's Duetto still commands is testament to that.
In the past 5 years I have not seen a single example of our van and Mavis may well be the only surviving example. The Company has long been dissolved but I believe the Family concern is still trading in a different name
I have always hoped that I would find a home on a forum somewhere but AS is the only forum that I feel at home on as our motorhome is so similar to many of the AS models of the 90s .
I hope that you will allow me to stick around. As I am now retired I have lots of time free to start restoring my MH and look forward to swopping ideas and advice with you all.
all the best Johnny

Welcome from Anglesey (on tour) . On the site we are on now there is a AS Flair (G reg on Transit) that is also named Mavis (well it has a graphic on to that effect).

must be a distant Cousin
Hope you're enjoying your stay at Anglesey . We stayed overnight at Bangor whilst touring North Wales but just didn't get time to visit Anglesey. Regretted it ever since

You are of course most welcome on here but if advice is needed would probably only apply to common things like fridges etc, along with Transit issues of course. Do you know the name of the builder ?

Hi Roger . thank you for your kind invite to stay.I promise to behave myselfroli wrote:You are of course most welcome on here but if advice is needed would probably only apply to common things like fridges etc, along with Transit issues of course. Do you know the name of the builder ?
I believe the builder was David Pegg of Horizons Unlimited but there is very little info about the Company before 2005 .
From what I can make out their motorhomes were sold through another Company (probably Vectra Motorhomes Ltd) which I suspect was also owned by David .Certainly Vectra is currently registered in his name .
I suspect that the Horizons Unlimited motorhome of the 90s was modeled on the AS Transit Duetto as they share the same basic layout and style although fitted out to a much lower standard than the AS Duetto of the period.
I am sure to have the odd question from time to time as I continue to upgrade and improve Mavis and this forum is definitely to best place to ask. I am hoping though that I will also be able to contribute.. as I have 50 years experience of working on my own classic vehicles .
