It might depend upon how far South you were, I presume the problem was present in more Northerly region as well.

We easily got a perfect ITV HD signal to watch Euro16 as far South as Limoges, with a 35cm £49.99 Aldi setup, but there are rumoured to be null patches even in France since Astra tightened up the 28.2E footprint.
LNB 'skew' can also be critical to get a signal.

Is your system self seeking/motorised, or can you point it manually?

Have you tried it in the UK?

Could it have a simple problem like the bloke on a site near St Malo (which I fixed) who's LNB cable had a short due to a stray strand of braid after he, "shoved the wire back in when it fell out mate"?

I've had problems in Southern France, mainly due to the 'tightening' of the footprint.

Not sure how far North I would need to go to pick up a decent signal, impressive if you can in Limoge.

A bigger dish, more accurate alignment and attention to the accuracy of the 'skew' might all help, but if it's in a 'null' then you're out of luck.
Having said that, SWMBO's son lives near Bremen, where there's supposed to be no signal, and he gets all the Freesat channels with a 90cm dish - go figure. shrugg

You should be fine in Nottingham, I would think...
