Re: To buy or not to buy....?
Cheers.
In regards to VWs and the 125 I had one of those back in the late 80s, it was one of the first air cooled vans and prior to that I had one of the older style 12 volt VW vans. Funnily enough I was never that attached to it although had it a year or two. I lived near you then in Gatton Park as a residential teacher.
I think your right about the forum, we shall see how long it will take for me to get over the loss of Bertha. Other half is already just looking forwards to the new Benimar with excitement.

Re: To buy or not to buy....?
the ridiculous thing is that we never had a trouble free trip with Schnecke (early water cooled) whereas the Transit has only had minor problems but its the VW we love the most.
On our first trip, to Poland, I was having fuel starvation problems and had a campsite booked that we couldn't find. Somebody came from the campsite on their pushbike to escort us and I couldn't keep up! The next trip to Spain resulted on him coming back from Spain in a delivery van three weeks after us. When we finally had a trouble free trip I got a puncture on the ferry!!!!
The Transit displayed the red alternator light last year (fixed by ignoring it until we got home) and the fridge stopping all together.
Heather wants a brand new van this time.

residential teacher Gatton Park school?
After my divorce my ex married into the army and my son's step dad wanted to send him to boarding school. The one at Gatton Bottom was one we looked at.

Bertha's now gone to her new owners. They seem nice enough but I know she is not going to get the same cherishing I gave her.... I am now officially no longer an Auto sleeper owner, just had one I grew to love.
Very sad day today..

Re: To buy or not to buy....?
The deed is done, we collected it today its OK in some ways it drives well enough, although still not as good a ride as Bertha had and the seats are not so comfy! I already miss that blow up lumbar support, and i do feel the bumps more. The comfortmatic gear box is acceptable although not like a real auto so on hills you need to use a brake especially for hill holding at lights or it rolls back or slips the clutch. I only hope it keeps working well enough as time progresses. It is a lot better than a van version we test drove where the so called auto was awful. Mixed feelings today, not helped by Marquis dealer I have to say. Still miss our Bertha she was an excellent bit of kit in many ways a hard act to follow...
