Raining in behind the dash
Following on from my last thread extorsionate service cost Peugeot, our Broadway went in under warranty yesterday to find where it was raining in and dripping on to the foot pedals and carpet.
I had a call this morning and they said that they had finally found where the water was getting into the dash board, and it was not covered by the Peugeot warranty.
They had removed the off side headlamp and found that my original dealer whom I'd had a lot of trouble with in the past had cut an hole through a large rubber grommet to pass the alarm wiring through. so in the extreme weather and with being parked facing up on our steep drive the rain water had been running down the alarm wiring and dripping above the pedals. Peugeot have sent me 2 photo's showing this so I could get back to my dealer but I have no faith whatsoever with them so I told the Peugeot technician to go ahead and fix it for me. So now another £265 down I've notified our dealer who said they will have to speak with their manager and would get back but zilch.

Hi John, very interesting posting. Just to say, I don't know if it is my computer, but I can't see your photos. Our alarm system is a Sigma, fitted by the dealer before collection. What is your alarm?, it may have the same wiring layout. I need to check ours for similar issues.

Re: Raining in behind the dash
So sorry re water ingress and how your dealer caused the problem.
I would tell your dealer, that you are paying the bill to rectify their fault, under protest. Also that you are looking for recompense from them re the cost, as they caused it in the first place. Don't lose your cool with them, keep it amicable
Do this in writing, but keep copies of all correspondence for your records.
If they don't meet the cost, or at least some of it, as a last resort, I would threaten them with the small claims court.
Hope you get a result.
Good luck.

John...please do as badpenny suggests. Polite but persistent and confirming in writing and do not think of a reduction. They are responsible and they should pay. I used to be a buyer when I worked (oops will that terrible word get through the ever vigilant moderator? ) and it works!

Re: Raining in behind the dash
John, did your dealer fit the alarm or did they use a Cobra registered fitter? Mine was arranged by the dealer, using a Sigma approved fitter. I have the fitters contact details sent to me with a Sigma fitting certificate and two year warranty, implying the fitting company is liable if the product is proven to be defective in materials or workmanship in the first two years. So you would have thought this would include defective 'installation' workmanship. Hope you have success with your dealer.

Re: Raining in behind the dash
The dealer had the alarm fitted on your behalf is that correct ? IE you bought the van from a dealer who used what in effect is/was a sub contract company ti fit the alarm ?
Was this dealer the MH dealer or the Peugeot dealership that have fixed the problem ? Confused here.
Either way the dealer (if the MH one) is liable for the cost. They must recoup this cost from their sub contract fitters not you !
Peugeot are in no way liable unless they supplied the alarm fitting company and if they did the above applies.
If you supplied the alarm company yourself IE you asked them to fit and paid them then its down to you to contact them and demand they pay the bill.
Make sure you get it in writing from the Peugeot dealers who are fixing the leak to state Exactly what caused it and why..

Re: Raining in behind the dash
Hello to all, the alarm was fitted by subcontractor for the dealership before I picked the new motorhome up in Feb 2014. I purchased the motorhome 1st March 2014. Peugeot said yesterday that the raining in wasn't covered under Peugeot warranty, after hours of searching for the water ingress they found the poor instalation of the alarm wiring. I am at this moment in negotiation with my original dealership.

John,
I would include Auto-Sleepers in the loop, they seem to do the right thing where their dealers are concerned. Hope you reach an equitable solution soon.
