Hi Rono and welcome to the forum from Leicestershire wave. The layout and quality of Auto-Sleeper van conversions suited us down to the ground. They hold their prices well so they will not be the cheapest to buy but we are hoping that it will last us a long time. Let us know what you''re looking for. Regards .. Jeff.

Hello and asof_welcome2 from Leicestershire.

From my experience van conversion,  I had a Topaz.

Auto-sleepers build second to none, Beds and settee not that comfortable, to me ideal as  a day van , a good bathroom in the Topaz, they do hold their price so are not cheap, at the end of the day you get what you pay for as the saying goes, I changed after 14 months for more comfort. stuck with VW Autosleepers ,as I prefer that combination, each to their own, other converted van owners will swear by them, does depend how you want to use your van.

Good luck with your choice , it`s a great life. Happy camper

Regards,
Margaret

PS converted vans, will go anywhere, limited storage, compact, stuck for room inside if inclement weather for any length of time.Just my take on it.

My coach built, roomy, comfortable, beds larger so more comfortable, a tardis for storage, economical, a joy to drive, will still go in a car parking space, used as an everyday vehicle.

Hi from the east coast.........
Autosleeper quality means that generally the van will last as long as you need it to, if you look after it !!
Majority of owners do just that. So second hand are somewhat better than most.
Hate spending money on things that won't last........................
Had a Duetto, then a Trophy, both van conversions, now finally a Clubman coachbuilt.
Lengths all somewhat short, but vans seem to get longer, and bigger these days.
Hope you get what you want, but will need to find out what will suit your needs !........Ian.

We haven't got ours yet but we went to the NEC with a list of 6 possible vans that fitted our needs. (<3500kg, <6m, 2 berth)

After a day walking around deciding which ones "felt right" our list had reduced to just 2, one A/S and one Swift. The A/S "felt" better made but you paid for that. There was very little in it but the final deciding factor was the microwave being at a safe height. This was the only company we found that didn't put it above shoulder height - very dangerous in our opinion.

Yes, it was dearer than the others but we are hoping that the difference will come back to us when we come to sell.

edit -----

forgot you mentioned van conversion! Ours will be a (short) coachbuilt.

We looked at a couple of van conversions but they no longer suit our needs. We currently have a self build Transit. It is lovely but just too small for long holidays and the bed is too tricky to put up every night. This is the problem with self builds though - you don't often get nice slides on the equipment.

The main thing though is to find a van that suits you and then work out if there are alternatives by other makers.

Hello to the forum from S. Yorkshire. My other half decided for me. The primary reason she gave was the layout of the Kemerton. Toilet & shower-separated-at the rear, full view of the outside when the swing door is open etc. Could go on but most of the benefits have been identified above. For me its an excellent drive.

Welcome from Nanoose, Canada.

Number one important in my view is the layout that suits you, number two is probably the converter. If buying new whatever it almost certainly will develop faults in the first couple of years but as has been posted above A/S are among the best in build quality.

Thanks to all those who welcomed me/us must forget the wife ( she might read this) it's good to know there others out there, we have now purchased a Warwick XL which we think will do us for a while, has any body done minor conversions to the layout of your vans e.g.put door hatches on the bench seat sides or ends to ease the access under the beds (such a pain lifting to gain entry) ? we did see one when searching.
Any thoughts on this would be useful.

Hi Rono, good choice and hope you really enjoy it. Funnily enough I was only pondering the very same thought yesterday that pull down doors on the front of the under side bench lockers would be handy for quick access rather than having to wake the dogs lifting the settee bases.

Thanks Jaytee as I said we saw one on the end of the seat/bed locker but it was bit amateurish. I have enquired about the price of the end panels and a waiting for a reply as we haven't seen any for want of a better word "conti" board the same colour we have a van builder near so might have to and see him to see if he can match then make a door up. some times its us who should be consulted on the planning of campers, its the same in the caravan industry the designers make it look pretty on paper but not practical to live in (sorry pet subject) up!
