Replacing bung in Broadway table leg hole. Empty Replacing bung in Broadway table leg hole.

Post by Quilter Tue Dec 29, 2015 7:54 pm

We have knocked the top off  the plastic bung that fits into the hole between the cab seats which is used to support the small single leg table in our 2014 Broadway.

Had anyone had to replace one of these and was it readily available from a dealer or AS ? We're in Spain at the moment so don't hold out any hope of a local replacement. We have tried glu-ing it together but can't find a glue to work. If there is hope of a replacement bung then we'll live tape over the hole until we get home. If no chance then we'll keep searching for a different glue. We don't use the table and have not got it with us but do want to do the job properly so the table could be used in future.

Thanks

What a star ! Many thanks John.

( Good to see that the description of it on the ad is as unwieldy as mine !)

Ours fell apart within weeks.

I turned a bit of boxwood to make a drop-in bung, with sufficient clearance so the table leg can be inserted without removing the bung.

The bung is flush with the surface of the floor so the dog doesn't put her paw in it and tear a claw, and with a small finger hole in the centre it's easy to remove for poking in the vacuum cleaner hose every so often.

A great improvement on the original and dead easy to make if you have access to a lathe, or know someone else who has.

Dave up!

The top broke off mine at six months old, not buying another for it to brake off again.   shrugg

That sounds like the Rolls Royce of bungs Dave and a bit beyond our capabilities. The idea of a finger hole and flush fit is one you should patent as its a more sensible design than the current one. I can't understand why the current one needs an 8 inch diameter chrome surround either. It's a table leg not a telegraph pole !

We will replace it eventually Steward because its a dust trap and, not carrying a vacuum cleaner means all dust has to be taken out by hand.

Please take my thanks as a given. I can't get the Thanks button to work, its greyed out.

My Clubman was missing the two covers (there are two table sockets) when I bought it almost four years ago.  I replaced them with similar ones to the ones in the eBay link above and they have been absolutely fine.

They get a lot of foot traffic over them, and they seem to be perfectly strong enough to cope with that.  No dust and dirt in the sockets either!

Personally I love the table leg and socket arrangement as it gives a very stable arrangement plus, with the tripod foot accessory, I can use either the large or small table-top outside as well.

The reason that the surround is that size is to give some mechanical strength and stability to the leg as the leverage force on it is quite significant.

Before the black plastic covers became commonly available, my Dad's cheapskate (sorry, economy) solution was an aerosol cap with a disk of matching carpet glued to the top, which would sit almost exactly flush with the top of the socket. He even made up a small handle out of a piece of bent wire which would push back down into the pile of the carpet, but which you could hook up with a fingernail when you wanted to lift it out and put the table leg in instead.

Our 2015 Kemerton had no bung fitted. Will take it up with Marquis where the MH was bought.

Should you read of an English couple arrested in a  Spanish Mercadona or Lidl for suspicious behaviour you will know that we've been going round measuring up aerosol caps. So far the nearest fit is a hairspray can ...but it is pink. Next best is the  white top from a spray cream can but what to do with the cream. Tonorrow's exercise is in the China Shop where we might manage a black top from something useful.

A very good idea: thanks.

I never realised we should have had one of those ! I now feel strangely compelled to buy for our van (2013 Kemerton) just because its missing ! hugegrins

The one thing I do think we are missing from our van is the carpet type matt that goes in the shower tray ? I have seen them in pictures but we don't have one ....... Does anyone know where we can get one please ?

Cheers Quilter. I never knew that I had a problem with missing bungs, now that I do I have turned the entire house upside down looking for something, anything, that will fit and look right. My wife who had just got the hoiuse tidy again after the Christmas visitors is about to divorce me, i cant go into the motorhome because it doesn't feel right now that I know something is missing, and it's now so obvious ! My life is ruined all for the sake of a bung !!   aaaaaargh. Happy New Year.

Like Quilter's loss, my Winnie's bung lost its head too. I have read, with great interest, the solutions offered above, and I think I'm going to lathe turn one up upon my return to UK in April and incorporate the brilliant suggestion of a drop down pin to facilitate the bung's removal. Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.

Best wishes, Happy New Year to you all.

Regards, Barry, Pepi and Ve.
