Following like sheep
So there we were, sitting admiring our favourite view within a short drive from home, just about to heat up a couple of cans of tasty soup when it went dark on our left hand side. No it wasn't an eclipse of the sun, but a massive great motorhome almost twice the length of our Duetto, parked within 6 feet of us. Now had the car park been full, I could have understood but there were acres of space all affording lovely views! The strange thing is that within 15 minutes of him arriving, two more parked up to his left (at least HIS view was also restricted) so we looked rather like a club outing. There were plenty of other places to park but we were all huddled together up one corner! Safety in numbers perhaps??? Note I haven't given the location just in case he reads this forum and comes round in the night and lets my tyres down ...........

it really bugs me when people do that. you get there early, park with a nice view and someone arrives late in the eve and blocks your view in a spot or carpark where there is plenty of room to park without spoiling it for others.

I always feel a bit guilty when we arrive at a car park, beauty spot, CL/CS or whatever and park as far away as we can from any other motorhomes or caravans that are already there, believing that they may be thinking what unsociable so-and-sos we are.
Seems like we are only actually doing what popular opinion wishes us to do!

Cherbourg Ferry terminal overnight. Best park in a huddle for peace of mind and deter some undesirable targetting an isolated unit. Not the best of secure stopovers but convenient if you have a late arrival at the terminal

I used the Cherbourg overnight stopover on May because of industrial action in Caen and had a problem because all the other motorhomes gathered round. Sadly, I couldnt have made out any undesirables who might sneak up on ME. I therefore pulled forward 2 vehicle length out of the way. With all that space I dont need anyone within 20 feet of me.....

Re: Following like sheep
On our travels this June we arrived early at a superb aire by the ocean that we'd stayed at before, and lo and behold the best spot with beautiful views at the end of the hard standing was vacant, we parked right up against the plastic water-filled traffic barriers that divided the beach from the aire and went to explore the town.
On our return a French van had parked lengthwise within a foot of us, obscuring our view. The occupants had pulled the plugs on the barriers, and when they were light enough, moved them a few metres so they could squeeze their van in....

I was pretty murderous.., but my wife is a big believer in karma, whereas I was anything BUT calm...
It's been my long held belief though, that France is a wonderful and interesting country, spoilt only by being inhabited by French people..
