Re: Hi all
ooooh thanks all, i appreciate the welcome. just got to get that insurance, can't believe my car insurance company quoted me over £500, fortunately highway with LV are just over 200, i'm getting used to this site actually. i bet i can navigate it easier than the Trident. must also get something called a Timing belt. didn't know they existed!!! its a 1998 model and hasn't had new since 2004. aside from that its got loads of service history and i'm hopeful it doesn't breakdown lol

Re: Hi all
hi all,
have now nervously returned home with campervan and will take some getting used to and not to mention the handbreak extension from someone will tell me where.
shall give it a good look over and hopefully begin to take her out once serviced and timing belt added with tlc.

Re: Hi all
Welcome Diane1 from a fellow a VW Trident owner.
We had our timing belt done as soon as we got ours at 36K. It's now got 61K on the clock and plan to have it done again at 80K
Enjoy your Trident
Cheers
Stevo

Re: Hi all
have just found out from garage that a timing belt is a cam belt, is this right? labour about £120.00 belt about £56.00 full service £90 plus parts. i think it needs a full service as it only has part services written in its service history since 2004.
i was wondering though, why i had never heard of a timing belt.
its booked in for this tlc next tuesday and i think i shall just clean it up (with help of neice) and learn about what is where etc
perhaps pootle it around the locality.
was very pleased with insurance at £217. so on the whole having paid £10,750 i think i should be pleased.

Re: Hi all
Hi
A cambelt on yours is a timing belt.
If you've been quoted 176 pounds(120 plus 56) to have it changed then that is very cheap.
Make sure the parts include the tensioner and ask the garage to check the water pump whilst they're working in that area and if there's any doubt about it get it changed.
Cheers
