Hello from South Wales, newbie looking to buy
Hello all
My name is Steve and I am on the lookout for a motorhome, love the look and reputation of the Autosleepers.
My first motorhome was a Hymer B544 followed by 2 self build campervans, built by myself and following the recent sale of my campervan have been scouring the ads for an Autosleeper but they all seem to be the other end of the country.
In the past I have always bought privately as you normally save over using dealers, but if I were to use a dealer this time what discount could I expect from the screen price as I will be buying only with no part ex.
Don't mind travelling for a lovely one.
KInd regards
Steve

Welcome from N.E Wales We bought our first motorhome from a dealer with no part-ex and got £1500 off a showroom price of £16,500, so expect around 10%.

Hello and from Leicestershire.
My first MH an AS I bought privately, no problems and very happy with it, then bought a larger AS from a Dealer, very happy with that too. So I guess it is down to the van that you want and what is available, and where.

Coachbuilt or Monocoque, not any particular model, just looking to find one in excellent condition, missed out on a nice looking Gatcombe in Swansea but the advert has now expired and I didn't take the phone number.
Thanks very much for all your welcome to the owners forum, I'm sure I'll need your first hand knowledge soon.
Kind regards
Steve

Re: Hello from South Wales, newbie looking to buy
It will depend on how much profit the dealer has and the demand for the particular model.. They won't discount something easy to shift but if they have something that has hung around you may get a chunk off.
Just ask for more than you think you can get and negotiate from there.

There's a 1999 Talisman GX I.m going to look at on a peugeot boxer with a 2litre petrol engine, can anyone give me some pointers on this, maybe things to look out for, can i expect the chassis to be good on this.
Many Thanks

Hi Steve. Welcome from another South Walian! We had a 99 Talisman which we bought new and kept for 13 years. Still good inside when we did a part ex but corrosion underneath it was a 2.5 TD which performed well. Don't know how the 2litre petrol will run but a test drive will enable you to decide on that bearing in mind you will be driving a vehicle without all your kit in it. Have a good look underneath! Best wishes

Re: Hello from South Wales, newbie looking to buy
Hi beargrease ,sorry as I deleted instead of saving your message.with regard to wheel vibration it could be front discs or leaking cylinders or rear breaks I have had both including a rear drum going "OVAL" that was a first in 50 years of motoring. You can sort whether its front breaks or back by traveling at 50 mph and pulling on the hand break. that tells you whether it`s the back end.Over the 5 years I have had my Legend I have had the front discs and pads changed and also the rear drums and breaks.I think the rear drum possibly went oval because where I bought it from set the rear breaks too tight when they initially serviced it.Now real problem Transit spares easy to get.Terry
