Hello all,

New to the forum. After a few months of debating and consideration, we have bought our first motorhome. It's a rather tidy Talbot Express Talisman, 1989/G but appears to have been cherished. 64k on the clock, petrol, and rather shiny thanks to 8 hrs elbow grease!!!!

Decided on one of these as I'd heard the 1 piece body was a good bet with it being an old motor, no damp issues, or at least less likely?. Looked at a few newer, conventional bodies and other makes and for the money I think we did OK. We want to see how we go, if we enjoy it, and after 2 day trips this would appear to be a YES.

Been looking under the bonnet, mechanically sound, electrics.............26 years of that'll do repairs which I am slowly putting right (like fitting inline waterproof fuse holders) up!

Well, we will plod on and learn this motorhome ownership thing as we go, bought a few basics, see what happens. Any advice welcome whether it be what to look for on our model, common problems or general stuff like how long a lead do I need for the 240 hook-up!

Cheers.

Mike.

Welcome from N.E Wales.     handshake

Just to answer one question - you need a 25 metre hook up cable. The Caravan Club insist on it and I've been on at least one CC site that needed every centimetre. (Canterbury).

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum from South Yorkshire. You made an excellent choice in Autosleeper, and it sounds like you've got a good example there, especially if you only spent 8 hours shining the bodywork!
Use the Search function on the forum page- its pretty exhaustive, but if you have any questions just ask, there's a wealth of information out there.
Its difficult to be specific about the length of hookup cable you need- I use two, one about 25m and the other about 10m (only one at a time though)... I think I'd be inclined to get a longish one and see how you go with that.

Thanks for the advice, I have a shorter one I'm using at home (10M) but did think it may not be enough in all cases. I shall get on the case. Thanks.

Hello and asof_welcome2 from Leicestershire.

Good choice of van by the way, I use a food grade hose to fill up the water tank at home, then when away a watering can to top up easy ,also a 25litre waste tank  on wheels I put under the waste tank tap so the waste water goes straight into the portable container, so can empty water instead of keep moving the van if no need to, works well. both watering can and waste water container fit in off side under settee easily.

Enjoy your new life, it is fantastic.

Regards,
Margaret
