MB Sprinter Fuel Gauge
I have just been reading the MB options Listing, (sad isn't it). I have come across option J51, Fuel Gauge Adjusted for Additional Fuel Requirements. It appears that the fuel gauge as standard does not display the actual fuel level in the tank, but gives a reading based on fuel consumption as calculated by the on board computer. The fuel level is only reconciled with the fuel level sender when you fill up.
AS spec for the chassis cab does not include J51 which reprograms the gauge to show actual fuel left in tank.
I am not sure if this is good or bad. What do you think?

Does this mean that if some "person" syphons your tank (or if your tank springs a leak) the first you will know of it is when you grind to a halt?

Yes. Or if you have some diesel fueled equipment running on fuel from your tank, the computer won't know it is being used.

Hmmm, swings and roundabouts me thinks. Funnily enough on the commanding officers old Volvo it has a mileage remaining in tank option which operates on the same principle and I must say is well usefull. It does have a standard guard as well.
It is a VERY useful post though Peter as it is an important thing to know.
And yes, I think you need to get out more
