We are having problems with the bench seat cushions (beds) on our Bourton slipping onto the floor each time we travel. They only have 2 press studs to hold them in place and these are attached to the side wall vertically, so that the force is applied to one edge of the stud and so has very little holding strength. We have been wracking our brains to find a way of modifying the attachments but no joy so far. Velcro sprang to mind but it would have to be sewn onto the fabric and as the covers do not come off we can't see how to do this.Bourton bench seat cushions 256783

Has any other Bourton (or other A/S with a similar layout) owner had the same problem, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The press stud fixing of the cushions has been used for very many years and I've never heard of your problem before.  Have the studs been damaged in any way?

Hi Peter, thanks for the reply, no the studs are quite undamaged as far as I can see, the main problem as far as I can tell is the strain is applied to the bottom edge of the stud and so levers the top off the stud. I have spoken to AutoSleeper and they said to contact the Dealer who in turn cannot offer any help at all. The problem is not terribly serious of course but annoying and would appear to be easily solved at the design stage by some velcro attached during manufacture. I am surprised if we are alone in having this problem!

A similar arrangement to the Gloucester, not had problems myself, but can see the potential. You could move the stud from wall to bed base, and shorten the cushion tag,so the pull was in shear.

Yes, those photo's are exactly the same, it's the seat cushion that moves away from the wall when traveling and pulls the cap off the stud so the cushion end up on the floor. I thought of stick-on velcro but of course it will not stick to fabric.

Ploughlin- thanks for that but would that leave enough room to get hands down to press the studs on, and also being not very DIY I might have problems with that!Bourton bench seat cushions 1087272891

Velcro will certainly work but I've never had a problem with the cushions moving and I don't corner gently when I'm travelling alone so am mystified at your problem.

We are going to try sewing velcro onto the rear of the cushions (not easy by the look of it) and sticking the other onto the wall. As you Peter I don't know why these studs will not hold the cushions, it's a brand new vehicle. Many thanks for your help.

Have you tried  putting that non slip plastic matting under cushion,? the thick nobbly sort not the thin as that is rubbish. Wilko`s sell the thick one  by the roll, £4.99 , I haven`t had a problem with my press studs in fact they are so tight when together I have a job to undo them,

Interestingly, the press studs on the 2015 Nuevo aren't anything like as tight on those on the 1998 Clubman which it replaced. It's as if the modern studs are a loose fit. Mine aren't (yet) so bad as to come undone in transit, but they are loose enough to be of concern for the future - especially because of the ninety-degree leverage applied to them. A retrograde step. So I'm following this thread for ideas!

I don't lose the cushions on my van but one press stud in particular soon comes adrift. I have just squeezed with a pair of pliars

the part of the stud that is fastened to the strap. I don't know if it will work with yours but it certainly has with mine. Just squeeze

a bit and try it until you get a tight fit, it took two attempts to get it right.

Good luck and without this post I wouldn't have tried it.

Update on my previous posts, the suggestion re. non-slip matting from daisy mae gave me the idea of using the sticky underlay from John Lewis which is designed for rugs. This is not particularly cheap but very effective and we have used it in the house. I cut the matting to fit under each settee and it holds the cushion firmly in place, so happy with the result.

It does seem to me that the later press studs are not as secure.

We have traveled several times since and no movement at all.

I didn't want to try cyclo's suggestion to squeeze the studs just in case, but many thanks for all replies!

We have the same studs on our Lancashire and the only problem that we have is the loose cushions and the shaped arm cushions which do fall off.  We never press stud the seat cushions and only sometimes press stud the backrests and they never fall off.

I apologise for going off topic.

As a seventeen year old trainee radio technician I was in an HS748 twin turboprop aeroplane inspecting the calibration of the instrument landing system at Glasgow airport.  I was thoroughly enjoying the freedom to walk about and do what I liked and was stood between the pilot and co-pilot as they made their first approach.  They did not mention that as we got to a height of 50 ft they would go to full throttle, climb and overshoot - guess where I ended up, to the amusement of all on board who knew exactly what would happen.
