41 Miles - is that a record?
Well - we picked up our van on Friday...... and 41 miles later we were in the Peugeot garage having our codes read!
The handover had gone fine - we popped home and put in all our bedding etc - and headed off for the weekend down in Cornwall
(Full Report here - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] )
Unfortunately after stopping in Tescco's to pick up some food - we had a "Check Engine" warning on the dashboard
We were around the corner from the dealer - who gave the Peugeot dealer a ring, who said that they would read the codes.... and so there we were - all packed and on our way to our first campsite..... now sat outside a commercial vehicle service yard!
They were very good - and soon had our codes read.
"Water in Diesel filter"
and
"Inlet Manifold Air Temperature Sensor Error"
I believe the filter fault was a loose connector - and this soon cleared.
We are however booked in to get our temperature sensor investigated further........
Happily we were told that it was safe to drive, and not to worry about it - so we continued down to Cornwall.
We ended up averaging 29MPG - Is this normal for a new van (Warwick XL) or will this improve?
There was also a slight "surge" as I accelerated - again, I will put this down to the Engine Management being a little confused. Apart from that - a great weekend!

Sorry to hear about your problems and glad to hear they are getting sorted. Diesels do get better as they loosen up so 29 mpg initially sounds good to me. I've had diesel cars for 15 years now and a couple from new and can say that one initially returned 42mpg but improved to 50mpg , so use it to improve it.

Re: 41 Miles - is that a record?
I have a Warwick Duo (not the XL) and it currently is showing the outside air temperature as being much lower than it really is. For example, when the true air temperature is 10c, the reading in the van will be showing circa -1c. My feeling is that this will be affecting the fuelling of the vehicle as the ECU will think that the weather is colder than it actually is and this could affect fuel consumption. I have the van booked in for investigation next week and will report back here when completed.
Edit: I expect a fuel consumption overall of between 32-34 mpg.

Glad it's getting sorted. It pops the bubble rather when something like that happens so soon. (Like a wheel hub flying off an approching vehicle and crashing straight through the plastic bumper of our new car, during the 7 mile journey home from collecting it from the dealer.) Sob!
That mpg is dismal, and is almost certain to get much better - assuming of course that you don't wear lead boots! (Nothing clobbers the mpg like speed.) We were getting an average of 33/34mpg quite easily from our recently departed Nuevo EK, and that presents a bigger slab to shove through the air than your Warwick.
Before you ask, I always prefer to set out a bit earlier rather than scorch along the motorway at 80mph (like some do) watching the fuel gauge drop by the minute. (Driving the van means "relaxed holiday mode" and I don't want any hassle that can be avoided. The fear of missing the ferry if we encounter a bit of traffic is not a good start!)
I set the cruise control at about 56mph so I stay with the lorries, and that gives both a relaxed journey, and an mpg of 36/37mph on a long run if there's no wind.
Hope this cheers you up a bit.

Re: 41 Miles - is that a record?
My VW Touran blue motion 1.6 tdi easily returns 60+ mpg on a run. Performance improved after about 2000 miles. I wish the camper did as well!Paulmold wrote:Sorry to hear about your problems and glad to hear they are getting sorted. Diesels do get better as they loosen up so 29 mpg initially sounds good to me. Re: 41 Miles - is that a record?
No lead boots!
A mixture of dual carrigeway, "A" roads and county lanes. Didn't push it above 60 - we were not in a hurry, so taking it steady.
I suspect it's in some sort of fallback mode because of the engine management light is in.
Also seemed to be a slight "surge" as we accelerated from standstill - again I suspect it's all connected, and should be simple to fix
