It's official - I am a Grumpy Old Man ...

.... because I was fitted with two new hearing-aids yesterday!

They are not the most modern "in-ear" type of hearing aids but on the positive side they are not attached to a box the size of a suitcase like my granddad used to cart about!

I am finding the experience pretty weird as I am picking up all kinds of sounds that I've been missing for years; the most disturbing of which is that I can hear myself shuffling my feet when I walk around the house!!!  Me?  Shuffle?  Like an old man?  I think not!  

Ah well, here's looking forward to a grumpy old age where at least I will be able to hear my carers shouting at me and the splashes of creeping incontinence!

All you youngsters should remember that the only alternative to old age is to die young.   

Have you driven the van while wearing them yet? terrifying! you can hear every squeak, tap and rattle.
It's not too bad once you get accustomed to them,but it's a steep learning curve

Dave also now has two of the little beasties.  Maybe you could persuade him to wear them??  I have not had much success....Still now we can both grumble... me because I still have to repeat everything 4 times when he doesn't wear them , and him because, as you say, the world is a very noisy place when he does fit them

I can now hear all the long drawn out sighs that my better half exhales when I am getting on her nerves .... 

.... and now I hear them I can comment on the fact that I can hear them ....  

.... which I suspect will also get on her nerves.

He only wears them when we go out for Sunday lunch, so he can chat to friends in the Boating Club!

I suppose the good news is that you aren't listening anyway, especially when the lamp is swinging, the waves are growing higher and the spray coming down the bar is getting worse with every re-telling of the story! 

Oh, I forgot to tell everyone that the hearing aids were fitted by a very nice lady from The Pillipeens.  She worked as an Audiologist for many years in The Pillipeens so I presume that this must be an area somewhere up near Lincoln way because I've never cycled through it around Skegness.
