Well there you go............................
Ann and I have decided to spend next year in our lodge at Carnforth as in eight years of ownership we have only ever spent about a month there in one hit.
So out of courtesy we thought we would inform our boss of our intentions Not to return as deputy wardens next year, but that we would happily continue to the end of our contracted finish date 7th November 2014.
She replied with an e-mail thanking us for our input in the site's first year, and that she was giving us 1 months notice to end our contract early finishing on the 3rd of October.
It feels to us like; "Thanks for your all your help and hard work setting the site up, now off" !!!!

That seems harsh and ungrateful, I can imagine you feel hurt and putout to say the least.
Can she legally end your contract early ?
Hope you enjoy the next year, and just think no awkward campers.
Good luck
Margaret

Re: Well there you go............................
Hi there,
Over the years I have seen many people "asked to leave" and there is a reason why their employers have asked Security to "escort them off the premises"!
Your employer is obviously unaware of what can happen when they keep on a disgruntled employee; and has never heard of "prawning"!!
However, I don't recommend doing anything other than "Take it on the chin!" Why work an extra month for someone so stupid and uncaring anyway?
Best of all regards.
Ian
Woof, woof, wag, wag, Carnforth, wag wag wag!!

Re: Well there you go............................
Hi all,
Many thanks for the kind comments.
As she put in our e-mail, "as per section 3 of your contract" which states that either of us could end our contract at any point by giving 1 months notice. She has!!!
The annoying thing for us is that we planned everything around the fact that we were due to finish 7th Nov. Losing 1 months wages is going to hurt, but the fact that our lodge has customers in it until the 15th Oct is the biggest pain.
As usual, we will be ok. It is just taking a bit of sorting. Selling/storing our caravan a month early. Staying with relatives until our lodge is empty. Taking all our belongings (an awning full of stuff) back into storage. Like I said, everything was in place to do it after 7th Nov.!
I guarantee, I will not be breaking my back this last month............. they can off !!!

Such a shame for you to end your "term" in this way. Your boss's people skills seem to be a bit lacking. Hope all turns out well for you, the idea of a lodge sounds great.

Our boss has granted us one weeks grace so we now leave on the 10th of October
By the way my "new" avatar is of the new guitar I bought a week before we were given notice. A rather beautiful Tokai ALS48 in Heritage Dark Cherry
A much better avatar than the last one

Re: Well there you go............................
If you had already given in your notice that you would be leaving on Nov 7th, then my understanding is that they have to pay you up until that date even if they don't require you to work out your full notice period.
I gave a months notice to an employer a few years ago (even though my contract only required me to give a week). They asked me to pack up my things and leave straight away and also asked me to hand in the keys to my company car. I left as requested but refused to return the company car, as it was part of my contract which didn't terminate until the end of my given notice period. I took advice and had it confirmed that for the duration I was entitled to full pay and to retain use of the car and fuel as these formed my contracted package (and on which I paid tax!).

Hmm, may just look into that. I wonder if it makes any difference with us being self employed seasonal wardens/workers?
Thanks
Ian
