Dehumidifier use in winter
At the end of each winter i usually find a number of small marks on the interior roof of our motor home, they usually come of using a stiff brush or by washing.
I presume that this is caused by dampness although there is no water ingress any where and no dampness has shown up at the habitation service.
I am considering using a dehumidifier this winter. I wonder if any one has any experience of this problem and if so whether use of a dehumidifier would help.

Hi Mike
I think you will receive some reviews on the pros and cons on using a dehumidifier inside your Nuevo, a large percentage of forum members prefer to use a low voltage oil filled electric heater during cold spells.
I think the view against them is that it will draw in the moisture from outside, via the air vents positioned around the van.
Ive used a oil filled heater inside my Nuevo and will continue to use it in my Sigma, no mould or damp. Fingers crossed.

Re: Dehumidifier use in winter
In the caravan we use a 4ltre ice cream box and fill it three quarters the way up with salt, when wet /damp just dry out and replace, in 25 years never had a problem with damp, my motorhome is my every day vehicle so is used in all weathers, so never bother with a salt box.

I have three of these. Put them in a few of the highest cupboards and leave the doors open. Have a look every few weeks and recharge in the house if the crystals have changed colour.

Re: Dehumidifier use in winter
Hi there,
Ask yourself the question:
I think the answer is "None."
However, as you apparently have a small problem with dampness, my advice would be to keep the van well ventilated and in winter put in a very small heater to just take the chill off at night. (We have the Dimplex Chico set at just above freezing and on a timer so that it comes on using the cheap nightie electricity for a maximum of two hours; but only if the temperature in the van is below 5 degrees or so.)
Hope this helps.
Best regards
Ask yourself the question:
"How many of the motorhomes parked out on the forecourts of dealers
have dehumidifiers inside them running day and night?"

Re: Dehumidifier use in winter
Don't use a dehumidifier I put one in my Nuevo last winter, left it running for 4 weeks. When I went to look at the van all the front of the dehumidifier was a solid block of ice. Dehumidifiers are not supposed to be used in temperatures below 5 degrees C. The suck out the damp in the air and dump it in a container inside. The damp never got there it just froze on the front and in the fins and round the motor. When I defrosted the unit it would not work, a waste of £40. Jim
