Mobile internet connection
We have recently bought a mobile home - first one . It already had a satellite dish fitted to the roof (the manual kind). If I subscribe to a satellite internet provider will I be able to receive broadband or equivalent via the dish? I'd like to use it to be able to work whilst out in the "van" - oh, by the way we live in the Scottish Highlands and will do a lot of short trips about and about here so, coverage may be an issue. Any advice would be much appreciated - thanks.

Hi there,
Welcome to the Forum.
I think Inmarsat provide internet connections via their satellite but I understand that it is very expensive.
I don't know of an economical satellite based broadband internet connection but if you find a cheap one then please let us know!
Best regards,

Hi.
I’ve no idea of the cost but you’ll almost certainly need different equipment. Not least because it has to be able to transmit as well as receive and it’s extremely unlikely that the installed equipment will be suitable.
I have heard of satellite internet systems designed for motorhomes so if you do go down that road I’m sure many people will be interested in how you get on.
Brod.
P.S. Have a look here for a start:

The pricing looks prohibitive for most people.

Hi
We are using a 3 mifi in Caithness and it is working well but as with any mobile signal there are blank spots especially in remote areas.
