Oh Joy............another Bank Holiday !!!
........and with it we get the "family tent" in the guise of Billy Smarts Big Top.................but not just a one off. Oh no, the whole blooming street has turned up in their own Big Tops ......................... Half expect to see tigers, camels and the occasional clown meandering through the site too..................... oh hang on, yep, just seen a half pie eyed bod with big feet stagger past our van in a rather hilarious fashion
Oh the joys of Bank Holiday Weekends

Re: Oh Joy............another Bank Holiday !!!
Look on the bright side!!
The poor beggar that drives the bus with "TOWN SERVICE" emblazoned on the front has to drive around Skegness three times every hour!!
The traffic isn't what turns the drivers into serious basket cases at this time of the season it's the people who wave him down, make him pull in and lose his place in the traffic and then hold a conversation with him that goes something like:
Holidaymaker (usually in a Midlands accent) "Do you go to Ingoldmells?"
"No. Sorry."
"Do you go to Butlins?"
"No. Sorry."
"How far do you go then?"
"Just to Winthorpe."
"Where's that?"
At this stage the driver is seriously considering a less stressful career in bullfighting but these lads are tough and have the patience of a saint so ....
"It's about half a mile up the road."
"Is it on the way to Ingoldmells."
"Yes, but we turn off well before we get anywhere near Ingoldmells." and in a more hopeful tone "A number 3 will be along soon and that goes to Ingoldmells."
"Okay. Thanks mate."
The holidaymaker steps back on to the pavement and the driver finally manages to close the door of the bus; but he can already see the next bus-stop about two hundred yards up the road, and a man that he doesn't recognise as a regular!
Sure enough, the man waves him down, he pulls in, stops the bus, opens the door and the man utters the immortal words "Do you go to Ingoldmels?"
Holidaymakers with tents?? Count your blessing!!
Best regards,

Re: Oh Joy............another Bank Holiday !!!
I try & stay home during bank holidays, as before we had the M/H, we drove across to Scarborough for the day, ALL carparks full, nowhere to park at all, after an hour or so driving around, went off to Whitby, the same there, drove down to Bridlington, guess what?? Yep, got it in one.
Many hours & miles later we returned home, having never got out of the car!!
Mentioned it to the post-lady next day & she & her hubby did EXACTLY the same.
So from now on, if its sunny, garden & beer.
If its rainy, telly & beer.
So Mr Darcy, count your blessings that you're not on the road.

Funnily enough, when we had our narrowboats a few years ago we also refused to leave the relative safety of the marina. All the holiday makers in the hire boats, particularly bad over bank holidays, made the inland waterways a dangerous place to be !!!

On the Canal du Midi we called them "Bumper Boats" for obvious reasons!!Tommy-Darcy wrote:Funnily enough, when we had our narrowboats a few years ago we also refused to leave the relative safety of the marina. There are a flight of locks just outside Beziers where the locals turn up with chairs and a picnic basket on Saturdays to enjoy the spectacle of untrained (and in some cases "untrainable") amateurs trying their best with newly hired boats way too big for them.
Enjoy the next week and keep remembering that most of the little darlings will be locked up in schools in another eight days!
Best regards,

Re: Oh Joy............another Bank Holiday !!!
Ian,
When my Mum retired she got bored so she took on a job cleaning the toilets at a camp-site just round the corner from where she lived.
After the first week she actually questioned the anatomy of some people on the basis that the target bowl was a fixed point "Down There" whereas the "Deposit" could apparently finish up anywhere between floor height and the ceiling!
Mum was often heard to comment "Some people must have it positioned somewhere between their shoulder-blades!" on a regular basis.
Best regards,
Ian
Woof, woof, whine, whine wag wag!!!!
