Not so new!
Hello Folks,
Well I am new to the forum but not that new to Auto-sleeper's, I had a nice new Compass 4 berth a few years ago but sold it on as little used though we did tour France extensively the first year both summer & winter.
Only problem with that Peugeot was the passenger seat which had restricted movement....(my Wife was not so keen)...... and the whole thing rattled like a tinkers van. Great at night with the heating on though and the Dog loved it.
Now I am after a post 2000 Tdi VW Trident (see wanted post) for next years tour down the Haute Alps pulling a Erde trailer with my Tiger 800 Roadie having a free ride and not suffering motorway flats on the tyres.
Normally I ride down south stopping at hotels and then I stay in a Gite with the lads...but..... next year I thought I would mix the adventures and move about a few campsites and drive the Auto-route's in comfort...with the Wife! (and happy dog).
Had a old 81 VW air cooled high top back in the 90's, it let me down everywhere....brakes failed on Telegraph Hill down Devon! ......Starter motor failed in france and I bump started it on and off the ferry on the way home ....petrol tank leaked on the M1...... What a horrible farting heap that was. But camping at Glastonbury Tor Farm was great fun!
Let hope the next one runs sweeter.
Have seen some great wild camping up the Alps these past few years, the places people have put their campers has amazed me. Saw one bloke who was on the edge of a sheer drop where if he had exited the driver door he would have fallen to his fate! Good view mind if a bit windy.
Ok thats it, hope all you folk are all having a great time this summer and watch out for the bikers.
Mike
